Box Score
SALEM, VA--The Lynchburg College softball team defeated
Randolph-Macon College 5-1 in the opening round of
the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament in
Salem, VA. The Hornets improve 30-10 on the season,
the Yellow Jackets fall to 21-13. The game was
played at Salem, VA’s Moyer Sports Complex.
Lynchburg was the first team to get on the
scoreboard, scoring an unearned run in the bottom of
the first. Lead-off batter Brittany Allsop reached
on a throwing error by the Yellow Jackets, getting
all the way to third on the miscue. Three batters
later, Allsop scored the first run on a Tara
Campbell groundout to short.
The
Yellow Jackets tied the score just a half-inning
later. Brooke Snyder got the rally going with a
lead-off single. After stealing second, Snyder moved
to third on a wild pitch. Becky Clarke put down a
bunt to sacrifice a runner on first to second. The
Hornet throw to first base was high, however, and on
the error Snyder was able to score from third to
even things at one.
The
Hornets recaptured the lad in the bottom of the
second inning. With the bases loaded, the ODAC’s
leading power hitter Caroline Cubbage drew a walk to
give Lynchburg a 2-1 lead.
Lynchburg extended its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of
the fourth inning. With runners on second and third,
Tara Campbell hit a grounder to short. The ball went
under the fielder’s glove and into the outfield,
allowing both runners to score. Three batters later,
with the bases loaded, pinch-hitter Lauren Duguay
singled up the middle to make the score 5-1.
The
Hornets will take on #2 seed Roanoke at 7:00pm at

will advance to Saturday’s 2:30 contest. The loser
