AMERST,
VA –Guilford College took control of the 2007 ODAC
Golf Championships from the start on Saturday
afternoon and only got stronger as the tournament
proceeded, winning its league record-tying 10th
title by 17 strokes. The Quakers, ranked
second in the nation in at least two different
polls, posted a 873 three-round total to win the
event.
Senior Colin Clark
overcame a seven-stroke deficit to teammate Joseph
Poplin to win the individual medal honors
(72-73-66=211). Clark put all six-foot
six-inches of his frame to work down the stretch,
birdied the final five holes to card a six-under-par
66 and win the tournament by three strokes over
Poplin (68-70-76=214). It marked the first
tournament win of the season for Clark and another
near miss for Poplin. This is the third time
this season that Poplin has finished as the
runner-up.
Washington & Lee
University's Nathaniel James and Hampden-Sydney's
Bob Boykin finished in a tie for third at 216, and
Roanoke College's Billy McDonald rounded out the top
five at 220.
