LEXINGTON, Va.--- All seven of the higher seeds
came away victorious on the first day of the ODAC
Women's Tennis Championship.
Play opened in the morning with a trio of matches.
Sixth-seed Guilford College trumped #11 Randolph-Macon
Woman's College, 9-0, marking the only shutout of the
three contests. Seven seed Emory & Henry College
defeated #10 Lynchburg College, 6-2, and #8 Sweet Briar
College slipped past Randolph-Macon College, 5-4.
Quarterfinal action provided four matches in the
afternoon. Top-seeded Washington & Lee University
lived up to its billing with a 9-0 triumph over Sweet
Briar. Second-seeded Virginia Wesleyan College won
by the same margin over Emory & Henry.
Third-seeded Bridgewater College turned back Guilford,
7-2, and #4 Hollins University made its way past #5
Roanoke College, 6-3.
In the championship side of the bracket offers a pair of
top-quality semifinal matches. Washington & Lee
and Hollins meet in one pairing while Virginia Wesleyan
and Bridgewater square off in the other contest.
Both matches take place at 2:00 p.m.
