Six ODAC
Football Standouts Earn All-South Region Honors
ABILENE, TX – Six Old Dominion Athletic
Conference (ODAC) football stand outs have been named to the Don Hansen’s Football
Gazette NCAA Division III All-South Region Team.
The weekly publication sponsors the nation’s only NCAA
Division III All-Region Teams and for the 15th consecutive season,
sports information directors from the South Region have chosen the teams.
Earning a spot on the first-team was Guilford College
punter Christian Adams. He led the league's punters for the third straight
season this fall with a 41.2-yards per kick average, the second-best figure in
NCAA Division III through games of Nov. 27. Adams
kicked 63 times for 2,595 yards with a long boot of 64 yards against Washington
and Lee Oct. 23. Adams set the ODAC record
with a 40.14 career punting average and the Quakers' career standard with 188
punt attempts. He set the Guilford
record and ranked fourth in Division III with a 41.6-yard punting average in
2003.
ODAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year Lawrence Frierson
led four Bridgewater College Eagles on the second-team. Frierson
helped lead Bridgewater to its
fourth consecutive league title and its fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament in as
many years. Frierson,
a senior from Stafford , VA , made 42 tackles, 11 of which
were for a loss of yards and he record three sacks during the season.
Frierson is joined by teammates Ranardo Whitaker (OL), Cameron Garvin (LB) and Brian Awkard (KR).
Whitaker and Garvin were named to the ODAC First-Team as well, while
Awkard was a second-team member.
ODAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year CW Clemmons earned a spot
on the South Region’s Third-Team. This
season, the Hampden-Sydney running back had a league best 1,098-yards and
scored nine touchdowns. He helped lead
HSC to an 8-2 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the league. The senior from Covington , VA , finished his career as the
ODAC leader in points with 282 and tied Emory and Henry’s Oliver Jordan
