VWC’s Allen Surpasses 1,000 Career Points

Virginia Wesleyan’s Devin Allen nailed a three-pointer with 22 seconds remaining to play on Tuesday night against Randolph-Macon College to not only tie a school-record for long-range shooting, but also to hit 1,000 points in her career.

A senior from Machipongo, Va./Northampton, Allen hit seven three-pointers in the game en route to scoring a career-high 28 points.  She scored 15 second-half points to hit the 1,000-point mark, becoming the 14th woman in VWC history to accomplish the feat.  She is the first to hit the lofty level since 2000, when Nancy Mattox closed her career with 1,323 points.

Four of Allen’s second half baskets were three-pointers, giving her seven overall to tie the VWC record set by Martha Sainz against Roanoke College in 1990.  Tuesday’s effort increased Allen’s season total to a career-high 57 triples, ranking her No. 6 among the program’s all-time single season leaders.  She is currently ranked No. 23 in Division III in average three-pointers made per game (2.6)

Allen currently leads the Marlins in scoring with 14.0 points per game.  She has been Virginia Wesleyan’s leading scorer for the past three seasons.
