Yellow Jackets defeat Roanoke,
78-68
Salem, Va.—The Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets defeated
Roanoke College, 78-68 in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic
Conference Tournament held at the Salem
Civic Center
on Thursday afternoon. The Yellow
Jackets were led by Meredith Roberts who posted a career-high 27 points on 9 of
19 shooting from the field. Point guard
Megan Mariani chipped in 16 points and Allison King
contributed a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for Macon.
In a losing effort, the Maroons
were led by Katrina Williams with 27 points.
Williams shot 50% from the field connecting on 8 of 16 field goals,
including 6 of 13 from behind the arc.
Crystal Barrett added a game-high 15 rebounds for Roanoke
College.
With Roanoke
leading 31-29 at the half, Randolph Macon came out and built a 10 point lead
midway through the second half. It
looked as though Roanoke would
stage a comeback when they cut the lead to 49-52 on a three-pointer by Williams. However, Randolph-Macon outscored Roanoke
26-19 down the stretch to seal the victory.
Randolph Macon (13-13) will play
the #1 seed Guilford College
tomorrow in the semifinals at 1pm at
the Salem Civic
Center. Roanoke
ends the season with a 13-12 record.
