Battle Creek, Michigan - The Red Hawks got another tremendous pitching effort by freshman John Carlon and John Pallino went deep for a solo home run in the top of the eighth, as Montclair State defeated Anderson in the Division III World Series at CO Brown Stadium.
Carlon (5-0) pitched the first seven innings, giving up one run in the fourth on a groundout. He held Anderson in check with six hits, three strikeouts, and did not walk a batter. Anderson came into the game hitting at a .340 clip.
Carlon got help from senior Frank Dippold, who came in with runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out in the eighth. Dippold stranded both runners, earning his eighth save, a Montclair State record.
Offensively, Pallino gave the Red Hawks a 3-1 lead with his 12th homer of the year to lead off the eighth. RBIs by Jason Scavalla and Butch Van Dunk, also in the eighth put the game out of reach for the Ravens.
Anderson will play Eastern Conn State and Montclair State will meet the Titans from Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
