Mideast Regional - Game 8 - May 20, 1999
In a game that started over three hours after its original schedule time of 3:30 because of a rain delay earlier in the day, Anderson scored two runs in the top of the ninth to pull out a 6-4 win over Allegheny in Game 8, eliminating the Gators from the Mideast Regional.
With the score knotted at 4-4 in the top of the ninth, Brian Stayte drew a one-out walk for the Ravens. Then with two outs, Steve Harris singled to left, advancing pinch runner Terrence Ross to second base. Allegheny then relieved starter Nate Crowe with its top reliever Ken Baker. He proceeded to walk Tim Bontrager to load the bases. The next batter Chad Pike rolled a ball to the hole at shortstop that Pike beat out for an infield hit, scoring Ross. Baker then walked Adam Heim to force in another run.
Picking up the win in relief for Anderson was Greg Cauble, who pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit. The tough-luck loser was Nate Crowe, who allowed five eraned runs in 8.2 innings. He struck out seven but did walk four batters and issued two wild pitches.
Anderson scored once in the first on a run-scoring single by Matt Bair then plated another run in the second on a throwing error by the first baseman. A bases loaded walk to Kelly Swiney in the bottom of the third moved Allegheny to within a run.
In the top of the sixth, the Ravens pushed their lead to 4-1 on an infield single by Matt Miller and a RBI double by Stayte. The Gators bounced back in their half of the sixth, however, scoring two runs.
Allegheny socred the first run of the inning on a wild pitch, then plated another run on an RBI single by Brad Yeschenko. The Gators tied the score in the bottom of the seventh when Mark Minadeo doubled in Ty Thompson.
Anderson now awaits the winner of the Ohio Wesleyan-Marietta game that will be played at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
