Boyertown, PA - The College of New Jersey defeated Alvernia College, 8-4, to win the 2002 NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament and earn a spot in the 2002 NCAA Division III World Series next week.
The Lions jumped out early as sophomore Brian Hickey hit two home runs, a two-run shot in the second inning and a three-run home run in the third inning to propel the Lions to the victory.
Sophomore Matt Szustowicz earned his seventh win of the season as he pitched five innings allowing just one hit and four runs. Senior Nick Maddalena earned his ninth save of the season as he pitched the last four innings allowing two hits and striking out six.
Senior Mike Kohri was named the Tournament's MVP.
