Georgetown, Texas - The Trinity baseball team fought it out with Concordia, but ended up on the short end of a 5-2 decision in Friday's NCAA Division III Regional Tournament at Rockwell Field. T
rinity (36-10) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, but Concordia answered with a two-out hit to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning. After the Tigers took advantage of an error by the Tornados to tie the game, Concordia received a bases-clearing double to take the lead for good.
Trinity had a few chances in the game after the fifth, but couldn't plate any more runs - leaving 10 runners on base overall. Matthew Hoss and Kenneth Sharp each had two hits for Trinity.
David Smith (8-2) pitched an amazing game under impossible circumstances, going the distance for the Tigers. Smith allowed eight hits in eight innings as well as five runs, but only two of the runs were earned. Smith also struck out nine batters in the game.
Trinity will face Pomona-Pitzer - who beat Southwestern in an elimination game this afternoon - at 7:30 p.m. to see who will advance to tomorrow's championship game against Concordia.
