Grand Chute, Wisconsin - CNU’s baseball team dropped its first game in the Division III College World Series to Chapman 15-2 Tuesday afternoon. Chapman and CNU will play again at about 5:30 pm eastern time this evening to decide the Division III national champion.
The Captains took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a Ricky Medina solo home run down the left field line.
Chapman tied the game in the top of the fourth on an unearned run. The heading into the top of the fifth when the Panthers sent 11 men to the plate and exploded for eight runs to break it open. Chapman then took any doubt out of the game with six runs in the ninth.
CNU added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Scotty George singled to score Ricky Medina.
Chapman then erupted for six more runs in the top half of the ninth to increase its lead to 15-2.
Ricky Medina was 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Jason Moody was 2-for-2 and Jeremy Elliott went 0-for-3 with a walk a steal. With that stolen base, he tied the single season record for stolen bases in a season with 49.
Jeff Green (left)pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and two runs. He struck out 11 and walked four. Max Gruber led the offense, which tallied 16 hits, by going 4-for-5 with four RBI. Donahoe, Taylor, Sanders (top left) and Chris Van Camp (top right) all had two hits for the Panthers.
Mike Cosby started and went four innings allowing seven hits, eight runs, six earned, one walk and struck out two. Ben Jarvis relieved Cosby and went four innings allowing eight hits, five runs, four earned and Aaron Jaggers replaced Jarvis and went one inning allowing one hit, two runs, one earned, one walk and one strikeout.
