Oshkosh, WI -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater capitalized on early St. Olaf mistakes, and defeated the Oles 7-1 in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional in Oshkosh, Wis. Thursday afternoon. The loss ended a nine game win streak for the Oles.
The Warhawks (34-7) scored three unearned runs in the first two innings off of St. Olaf starter Charlie Ruud. The Oles didn't make a mark on the scoreboard until the seventh, when Joe Pavelko hit a solo homerun to rightfield.
UW-Whitewater had just seven hits. The Oles had six, strandings seven runners.
Jon Haugen and Jeff Jasperson each pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Ruud. The Oles will play the loser of this afternoon's other first round game between Ripon College (32-4) and UW-Oshkosh (33-6) tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
