Hickory, NC -- CNU’s baseball team overcame a four hour rain delay and came from behind to defeat Salisbury 5-4 on day one of the NCAA South Regional.
Ricky Medina drove in Matt Lewellen to score the winning run which was made possible when an errant throw on a pick off allowed Lewellen to advance to third base. Matt Turner tied the game at three in the bottom of the fifth just before the rains came. Turner finished 3-for-4, Jayson Basanes and Scotty George each went 2-for-3.
Mike Cosby started the game and went five innings striking out six batters. Eben Brower relieved Cosby after the rain delay and went four innings allowing one run while striking out six batters to pick up the win.
The Captains are now 28-7 and will play the winner of Thomas More and Averett Friday at 7 pm.
