Rocky Mount, NC - Top-seeded Salisbury University overcame a 7-3 deficit with six runs in the eighth inning to survive the first elimination game of the NCAA Division III Baseball South Regional.
Andrew Jensen’s three-run homer completed the comeback and secured a 9-7 win over second-seeded Emory.
Emory (31-9) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of first behind a three-run blast by second basemen Taylor Gettinger. Salisbury (37-9) answered with a two-spot in the second, only to see the Eagles push across a run in the bottom halves of the second and third.
The latter of those runs came on a Bo Schill homer to left field. Both squads managed a run in the fifth to make the score 7-3, setting the stage for Jensen’s late-inning heroics.
Both starters received no-decisions. Drew Campbell (6-0) earned the win in relief for Salisbury after tossing 6.1 innings. Campbell effectively shut the door on an Eagle offense that scored in four of the first five innings, allowing just one run on four hits. Ryan Lumsden (3-1) took the loss after going just a third of an inning and walking in one run. Colin Kraus, who drew the walk, proved to be the winning run.
Offensively for the Sea Gulls, Jensen finished 4-for-5 and Greg Lemon 3-for-4. The two teams combined for 29 hits in the contest.
