Muskingum Slides By Chapman, 2-1

 

Muskingum pitcher Erica Hoyt gave up just three hits en route to a 2-1 win over Chapman University Sunday evening in game ten of the 2004 NCAA Division III Softball Championship.  With the win, Muskingum improves to 43-6 overall and will face Salisbury University later on this evening.  Chapman ends its season at 36-11 overall.

Hoyt (38-3) held the Panthers to just two doubles and a single through seven innings.  She also struck out four and walked three.  Offensively for the Muskies, Shauna Jellison was 3-for-4, while Nicole Blubaugh was 2-for-3 on the evening.  Left fielder April Rader finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. 

Chapman was led by Brittany Ziegler and Melissa Simmerlink who each had doubles.  Right fielder Jill Jeranko chipped in with a single for the Panthers.

Erin Bryant (7-2) took the loss as she threw four innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and walking one.  Marissa Becerra pitched the final three innings for the Panthers, giving up three hits and striking out one.
