April 4, 2008

SALEM, Va. ---
It's not often that "Virginia's Championship City" gets to welcome a new NCAA event to town.  In 2007, the City of Salem and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) welcomed a NCAA women's lacrosse championship to the Roanoke Valley for the first time with the crowning of the NCAA D-II champion.  This spring, the storied duo welcomes the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship to town marking the 51st overall NCAA championship hosted in Salem.  Four teams will take to the field at Roanoke College's Donald J. Kerr Stadium on May 17-18.  The semifinals are slated for Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.  The title match is set for Sunday at 12:00 p.m. and will be televised live by the CBS College Sports Network (formerly CSTV).

First round play begins on Wednesday, May 7, with 18 of the 25 teams in the bracket looking to move on to the regionals.  Seven squads who received byes into the regionals await the nine winners.  It will take a pair of triumphs in regional competition to earn a ticket to Salem.  Regional play is slated for May 9-11.
