Generals Top ODAC Women's Tennis Poll
Washington and Lee University corralled 11 first place votes on the way to 121 points and the #1 position in the 2013 ODAC Women's Tennis Preseason Poll. Virginia Wesleyan College picked up the remaining top nod and 99 points to place second, but just six points separate slots two-thru-four. Hollins University is third with 95 tallies, and Roanoke College chimes in fourth with 93 points.

The 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Swimming Championships will take place February 8-10 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC. This marks the second year the championship has been in Greensboro.

Jostens and the J Club of St. John's University have announced the 10 finalists for the 2012 Gagliardi Trophy, which is awarded to NCAA Division III football's top student-athlete. Washington and Lee senior running back Luke Heinsohn is among the finalists.

2011-12 ODAC All-Academic Team
The ODAC All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 student-athletes for the sixth consecutive year and set a new high-water mark for the third year straight year. With representatives from each of the 17 ODAC institutions (including associate memberships for Catholic, Greensboro, Notre Dame of Maryland and Shenandoah), 1,350 student-athletes earned recognition.

H-SC Tabs Main as Golf Head Coach
Hampden-Sydney Athletic Director Richard Epperson '79 has announced the hiring of Mac Main as the new head golf coach. Main will assume his post for the 2012-13 season while former head coach Joe Bush will act as assistant coach. Main is currently the golf pro at The Manor in Farmville.

Marlins Rank in WBCA Academic Top 25
For the first time in program history, the Marlins are ranked among the top academic teams in the nation. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association has released its annual Academic Top 25 and Virginia Wesleyan boasts the No. 12 highest grade point accume among NCAA Division III teams. The Marlins posted a 3.513 team grade point average.

Welcome to the ODAC, Shenandoah!
Shenandoah University became the 14th full-time member of the ODAC on Sunday, completing an introductory that last just short of two years following the ratification of SU's membership application by the league's presidents in September 2010. The Hornets will compete in 20 of the ODAC's 23 sponsored sports, beginning full-time with the Fall 2012 campaigns.

GC's Ratner Named to All-Nicklaus Team
Guilford's Noah Ratner was one of 24 students named to the 2012 All-Nicklaus Team, presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America to the nation's top golfers. He joins former teammate Peter Latimer '10 as GC selections to the annual all-star team comprised of golfers from NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, the NAIA and the NJCAA.

Lynchburg women's soccer coach, Dr. Todd Olsen, was inducted into the Capital One Academic All-America Hall of Fame, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The ceremony, which took place at CoSIDA's annual convention last week in St. Louis, honored six individuals from all divisions of NCAA competition.

Hollins and athletic director David Zinn are excited to announce that Bill Shook has been named new head volleyball coach. Coach Shook will take over the program as it enters its second season of ODAC play after a six year hiatus. LC's Palase Drafted by Mariners
Recently graduated Lynchburg shortstop Richard Palase was drafted in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Seattle Mariners last week. He is one of 12 NCAA Division III players to be drafted this season. He is the second Hornet to be drafted in the last four years, following Ronnie Labrie '08, who was selected by the Washington Nationals in 2008.

R-MC's Walton Inks Deal with Cardinals
Randolph-Macon's two-time All-American first baseman, Jordan Walton, may not have been drafted last week, but he will continue his playing career at the professional level as he signed a minor league deal with the reigning world champion St. Louis Cardinals. Walton will report to the Batavia Muckdogs (N.Y.) in the short-season New York-Penn League.

Hearn to Lead VWC Golf Program
Virginia Wesleyan golf welcomes Bryan Hearn as its new head coach leading into the 2012-13 academic year. Hearn, a graduate of Old Dominion University, has been a golf pro in the Hampton Roads area for the last six years. He'll be charged with rebuilding a program that returns just two players from the 2011-12 season.

GC's Ratner Wins Jack Nicklaus Award
Guilford golfer Noah Ratner was one of five NCAA student-athletes honored with the Jack Nicklaus Award as the nation's top golfers at each level of NCAA competition (D-I, II, III, NAIA, NJCAA). Ratner, the first Quaker to earn the honor, received his accolade at the recently completed The Memorial golf tournament in Dublin, Ohio.

Lynchburg defenseman and 2012 ODAC Player of the Year, Joe Lisicky, leads a long list of ODAC athletes earning All-America recognition from the USILA. Lisicky earned a spot on the All-America First Team, while three others earned second team honors and one on third team. Nine ODAC athletes were slotted to the honorable mention team.

Washington and Lee's Christina Benedetti was selected as a Second Team All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The top-seeded Christopher Newport University baseball team defeated fifth-seeded Lynchburg College 7-1 in game four of the NCAA Division III South Regional at CNU on Thursday. With the loss, Lynchburg is eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.

Lynchburg Enters NCAA Baseball Tourney
Two weeks have passed since the end of the ODAC Baseball Tournament, but Lynchburg College now knows when and where it will play in the 2012 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. The Hornets, winners of the ODAC's automatic bid, will travel to Newport News, Va., to participate in one of eight regional pods beginning on Wednesday, May 16.

Roanoke Wins Regional Softball Title
Roanoke continued its run through the regional round of the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament, defeating host Christopher Newport (3-1 this time around) for a second time to claim the regional crown and a spot in Salem's national championship series. It will be the first final series appearance for RC since 2001.

NCAA Announces Golf Teams, Individuals
The NCAA released the field of teams and individual players for the 2012 NCAA Division III Golf Tournament on Tuesday. Guilford, winners of the ODAC's automatic bid, will be the lone league team competing among the 41-team field. Five individuals were also selected to even out the 210-man tournament set, including Hampden-Sydney's Rick O'Connell.

Washington and Lee edged Lynchburg by .019 rating points to claim its ninth straight Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance. W&L also retained the Women's Commissioner's Cup for the ninth consecutive year. LC won its fourth straight Men's Commissioner's Cup.

Virginia Wesleyan College, winners of the 2011 ODAC softball championship, enters this year's tournament as the top seed after posting a 27-10 overall record and a 17-1 league mark following Wednesday's contests. GC Wins 12th ODAC Golf Championship
Guilford claimed its second-straight and 12th overall ODAC golf championship on Tuesday afternoon at the Bay Creek golf course. GC, ranked second in the country, shot a 596 two round total (296-300) to finish 20-over-par, 19 strokes clear of second place Roanoke (310-305--615). W&L finished in third place with a 622 two round total (315-307).

Bridgewater Mourns Loss of Legend
Bridgewater professor and coach Harry G.M. “Doc” Jopson died the morning of Friday, March 9 at the age of 100. Since 1936, Jopson had been a fixture in the BC track & field and cross country programs, and grew to earn acclaim across the state as the "dean of Virginia track coaches." Since 1981, the ODAC's top male student-athlete award has reflected his name.

The women's quarterfinals will take place on Thursday, with the men's quarterfinals being played on Friday. LC Women's Basketball Hosts SOVA
Lynchburg College and Special Olympics Virginia (SOVA) continued its long-existing partnership on Friday, Feb. 3, as the Hornets' women's basketball team played host to SOVA basketball programs from Campbell Country and Lynchburg (city). The two teams took in the crosstown matchup between LC and Randolph, and faced each other in a game at halftime.

Scott Abell Tabbed to Run W&L Football
Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn announced that Scott Abell has been promoted to head football coach effective immediately. Abell had previously served as the program’s assistant head coach and offensive coordinator. He replaces Frank Miriello, who announced his retirement from coaching earlier this week after 17 seasons as W&L's head coach.

Washington and Lee mentor Frank Miriello has announced his retirement as the school’s head football coach effective immediately. Miriello will remain as an instructor of physical education through the remainder of the current term. Miriello spent 17 seasons coaching Generals' football.

R-MC's LaHaye Notches 500th Career Win
Randolph-Macon College head coach Carroll LaHaye became just the 15th NCAA Division III women's basketball coach to record 500 victories as the Yellow Jackets topped Roanoke College, 82-70, in ODAC action on Friday night. Maroons' head coach Susan Dunagan is also a member of the 500-win club. R-MC's win marked the fourth straight over Roanoke.

W&L quarterback Charlie Westfal has been named the 2011 recipient of the Willie Lanier Award, presented annually to the best college football player in NCAA Division II, III and NAIA in Virginia. Bridgewater mentor Jean Willi (pictured) became the fourth coach in ODAC women's hoops history to win 300 games in the Eagles' 80-63 win over Southern Virginia on Tuesday night. Lynchburg's Shelly Milks (pictured) earned recognition from a pair of outlets in annual postseason awards announcements. She was named a NFHCA First Team All-American and joined four of her teammates on the All-South Region Team. Hampden-Sydney center Ben Rogers and 126 other collegiate football student-athletes from all divisions were announced as candidates for the 2011 William V. Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame. The Campbell Trophy recognizes the best scholar-athlete in the nation.

GC's Ratner Wins NCAA D-III Preview
Guilford'sNoah Ratner earned his first college medalist honor Tuesday at the Gordin Classic-NCAA Division III Preview. Playing the Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon Course, Ratner shot one-under-par 71 to finish with a 54-hole 213, three strokes better than Methodist University's Mike Wesko (216) in the 92-man field. He was the only golfer under par for the tournament.

Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer has gotten off to a roaring start this season, already climbing the ladders of the top two national polls that benchmark women's soccer. At 8-0, the Marlins are the only undefeated team left in the ODAC women's soccer standings, but plenty of conference schools are making their mark across the country and in the region.

Leonard Earns National Weekly Award
On Tuesday, Synapse Sports named Lynchburg field hockey junior Lindsay Leonard Division III Player of the Week. Synapse Sports is a national website that covers field hockey, women's and men's lacrosse for Divisions I, II, and III. Leonard scored four goals with three assists last week, including a goal and a helper in a 2-1 upset of then top-ranked Messiah.

The ODAC All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 student-athletes for the fifth consecutive year and set a new high-water mark for conference honorees for the second year in a row. With representatives from each of the 14 ODAC institutions (including Catholic for football only), 1,253 student-athletes earned recognition on the 2010-11 ODAC All-Academic Team.

The Washington and Lee women's tennis team recovered from a 4-2 deficit to post a 5-4 victory over Carnegie Mellon in the third round of the NCAA Division III tennis championship on Saturday morning. Creech Named National Player of the Week
Virginia Wesleyan hurler MacKenzie Creech was named Co-National Player of the Week by the NFCA for her performance during the ODAC Softball Tournament. Guilford posted a 300 team score in the third round of the ODAC Golf Championship on Tuesday morning and afternoon to claim its 11th conference title. Bridgewater's Mike Redwood became the first back-to-back ODAC individual champion with an eagle on 18 to secure a final round 67.

Clotfelter to Run Wasps' Volleyball
Dan Clotfelter served as head volleyball coach at Walker School in Atlanta, Ga., building that high school program into a state powerhouse. During his eight-year tenure, the team competed in four Final Fours, three Elite Eights and one Sweet Sixteen. He was selected four times as the Area Coach of the Year and was selected as a State All-Star Game Coach.

Lynchburg College claimed both the men’s and women’s crown on Friday evening in the 2011 ODAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The Hornets earned 163 total points for the men’s title and the women accumulated 161 total points for the championship.

RC men’s basketball coach, Page Moir, claimed an ODAC coaching record on Tuesday night, one of two league standards in his reach at the start of the 2010-11 season. The Maroons’ 73-59 win over Washington and Lee University marked Moir’s 231st win against conference competition in regular season league play. He passed former E&H mentor, Bob Johnson (230).

Lynchburg Tops Men's Track Poll
Lynchburg College received all seven first place votes on the way to 49 total points in the 2011 Men’s Indoor Track Coaches’ Poll. The Hornets stand 11 points clear of second position Bridgewater College, which chimed in with 38 points. Washington and Lee University followed in third place with 32 tallies.

Rusiewicz to Head Quakers Football
Former Ursinus College associate head football coach and defensive coordinator, Chris Rusiewicz, was announced as Guilford College's 22nd football coach in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. Rusiewicz was named the AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year for NCAA Division III this past season, his ninth on the sidelines at Ursinus.

Dr. Toms Inducted in USTFCCCA Hall
Lynchburg's Dr. Jack Toms was one of six individuals to be inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame. Toms joined Cleve Abbott of Tuskegee, Doug Watts of Edinboro, Bert Lyle of Texas Woman’s University, Jeanette Bolden of UCLA and Chick Hislop of Weber State in the Class of 2010. Very few non-Division I coaches have been inducted in the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame.

Kwiatkowski Named NSCAA All-American
Lynchburg College senior forward Betsy Kwiatkowski was recently named a 2010 Second Team NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-American. Kwiatkowski also headlines 11 ODAC student-athletes who were named to the South Atlantic All-Region Teams, including four on the first team. Hornets’ head coach Todd Olsen was named the South Atlantic Coach of the Year.

Roanoke defender Michael Stark (pictured) and Lynchburg defender Hunter Smith were named 2010 NSCAA All-Americans on Sunday. Stark earns his third straight honor while Smith enjoys his first accolade. The two awards highlight seven All-Region honors including a trio of first team honors.

Coach Bush to Retire from H-SC
From WSET-TV 13 in Lynchburg --- Hampden-Sydney College is losing a legend at the end of this month. Athletics Director Joe Bush is retiring, capping a combined 41-year coaching and A.D. career, the past 25 years with Hampden-Sydney. Bush came to H-SC in 1986, having coached several programs. He has served as AD for the past 19 years.

BC's Tyler Beiler learned of another major honor on Thursday following the announcement of the 2010 D3football.com All-Region Teams. The Eagles' receiver was tabbed the South Region Player of the Year, highlighting a contingent of 13 student-athletes from the ODAC schools honored. The conference placed five players on the first team.

Beiler Named First Winner of Lanier Award
BC's Tyler Beiler became the first ever winner of the Willie Lanier Award, edging out H-SC's Trevor Ikwild and E&H's Caleb Jennings for the state's top college division honor. The award is given by the Touchdown Club of Richmond in coordination with the Richmond Times-Dispatch. In all, ODAC players swept all five college division honors bestowed by the Club.

W&L Adds Women's Golf as 24th Sport
Washington and Lee will add its 24th varsity sport — women’s intercollegiate golf — to begin competition in 2012. Once women’s golf begins competing on a varsity level, W&L will field an equal number of women’s (12) and men’s (12) intercollegiate sports. Women’s golf is the first team added since field hockey became a varsity sport in the 2000-01 academic year.

R-MC Announces Addition of Men's Swimming
Randolph-Macon President Robert Lindgren announced on Friday that the College will be adding men's swimming as an intercollegiate sport. The Yellow Jackets will begin recruiting immediately with the intention to start competition in the fall of 2011. Men's swimming is the 16th sport sponsored by R-MC and will be led by current women's head coach, Ben Delia who will serve as the coach of both programs.

Washington and Lee University garnered six first place votes and 48 poll points as the league’s coaches voted the Generals to the top spot in the 2010-11 ODAC Swimming Preseason Poll. Randolph-Macon College collected the remaining top nod and 42 tallies for second place, and Sweet Briar College secured third position with 35 points in the annual survey.

Randolph-Macon Director of Athletics, Jeff Burns, announced on Wednesday that former Mary Washington All-American, Caitlin Erickson, has been named the new women's lacrosse head coach at R-MC. Erickson arrives in Ashland after a two-year stint as an assistant coach with her alma mater, helping lead the Eagles to 28 wins.

Randolph-Macon is proud to announce the opening of a brand-new tennis complex on campus. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the complex located at 112 Henry Clay Road, Ashland, Virginia. R-MC tennis coach Wayne Vaughan and the tennis teams were on hand, and mini tennis clinics were held for elementary-age students.

LaHaye attended high school (Medomak Valley) and college (University of Maine at Machias) in Maine.

Shenandoah University to Join the ODAC
Shenandoah University is set to become the newest full-time member of the ODAC, effective in all sponsored sports at the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year. The acceptance of SU’s application for admittance was ratified last week at an annual meeting of the ODAC’s presidents. SU will become the 14th full-time institution within the ODAC's membership.

He compiled a 170-58 softball record while at VWC, and led the team to two NCAA appearances.

Emory & Henry running back Caleb Jennings ran for a 45-yard touchdown against Methodist on Saturday, but he did so by eluding several defenders, hurdling another and bouncing off one more as he covered roughly 135 yards of territory on the play. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 student-athletes for the fourth year running and matched the overall total from a year ago. Director of athletics, Aubrey Shinofield made the announcement on Monday that Randy Polito will be the new lacrosse coach at Hollins University. Polito will begin his duties at the University on August 8, 2010.

Love Named D-III's Best Defender

Roanoke Wins ODAC Men's Lacrosse Title
Roanoke College staved off a tough matchup with Lynchburg College to claim the 2010 ODAC Men's Lacrosse Title, 12-8, in Salem on Sunday afternoon. RC found itself down after the first quarter, but the Maroons rebounded with seven goals in the second period to spur themselves towards victory.

Valles Repeats as Women's Lax POY
RC's Gina Valles secured her second straight ODAC Player of the Year award as part of the 2010 ODAC Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Teams. LC head coach Bruce Reid earned the league’s top coaching award, and VWC's Nikki Salyers was tabbed the ODAC Rookie of the Year. WLU's Emmy Mathews was selected as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete.

Jett Takes Home Two Men's Lax Awards
Hampden-Sydney midfielder Kyle Jett (above) secured both the ODAC Player of the Year honor as well as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete award. Roanoke’s Bill Pilat was tabbed the ODAC Coach of the Year, and Lynchburg's Max Voumard earned ODAC Rookie of the Year recognition.

Generals Win Women's Lacrosse Title
The top-seeded and 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women’s lacrosse team opened with seven unanswered goals and never looked back as it claimed its eighth ODAC Championship in the last 10 years with a 14-6 victory over Lynchburg College in the conference title game on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

Moss Takes Home Two Tennis Honors
Hampden-Sydney College senior Will Moss became the second ODAC men’s tennis student-athlete to win four ODAC Player of the Year awards in a vote of the league’s men’s tennis coaches. Moss picked up a second honor as he was voted the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete by the ODAC sports information directors.

Duguay, Brown Top ODAC Softball Awards
Lynchburg, Roanoke and Virginia Wesleyan each garnered three honorees on the All-ODAC First Team. Lynchburg’s Lauren Duguay took home a pair of individual honors as the ODAC Player of the Year and ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete. VWC’s Brittaney Brown was named the ODAC Pitcher of the Year.

W&L Dominates Women's Tennis 1st Team
W&L placed a student-athlete at each flight of the first team in the 2010 ODAC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Teams. Lauren Caire was named the ODAC Player of the Year, while Eric Ishida took home the top coaching award. Hollins saw Karen Montoya tabbed as the best freshman and Sarah Budrus honored with the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete Award.

Dr. Toms to Step Away from Coaching
Just three days after leading his Lynchburg outdoor men’s track & field team to the 2010 ODAC Championship and earning conference Coach of the Year honors, head men’s cross country and track and field coach Dr. Jack Toms announced his retirement Tuesday from coaching, effective at the end of the season. He will remain as the director of athletics at the school.

W&L Women's Tennis Captures ODAC Title
The sixth-ranked and top-seeded Washington and Lee women's tennis team claimed a 5-0 victory over No. 2 seed Hollins in the championship match of the ODAC Tournament on Monday morning. The win marks the Generals 20th ODAC crown. They also received the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins on May 14.

Eagles Win ODAC Baseball Crown
Bridgewater College knew it had to win twice on Sunday to go home with some hardware, and the Eagles came through as they beat Lynchburg College in both the scheduled championship game and the double-elimination "if necessary" game. Casey Hartman (above) fired seven innings to propel BC to the win.

W&L Men's Tennis Claims ODAC Title
The 25th-ranked and second-seeded Washington and Lee men's tennis team claimed a 5-3 victory over 27th-ranked and top-seeded Hampden-Sydney in the championship match of the ODAC Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Duchossois Tennis Center.Washington and Lee will receive the ODAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, which begins on May 14.

Royals Win Second ODAC Softball Title
Eastern Mennonite made the 20th anniversary of the ODAC Softball Tournament feel much like the first event as the Royals topped Virginia Wesleyan, 5-1, to claim the 2010 title and earn the ODAC's automatic bid into the NCAA D-III Softball Tournament. EMU (then EMC) won the inaugural ODAC crown in 1990.

Yerkes, Reid Help Lead Teams to Titles
Roanoke College won the women’s championship and Lynchburg College claimed the men’s title Saturday at the 2010 ODAC Track & Field Championships hosted by Bridgewater College. Robin Yerkes and Dan Reid were named the Female and Male Athletes of the Meets after propelling their schools to team wins.

Phillips Takes Over Hollins Hoops
Athletic Director Aubrey Shinofield has announced two changes within the athletic department at Hollins University. Richie Waggoner will be relinquishing his duties as basketball coach to devote all of his time to the office of sports information while Jim Phillips will move from assistant to head basketball coach for the upcoming season.

Nichols to Head Randolph Women's Hoops
Randolph College has appointed Allison Nichols as the WildCats new head women’s basketball coach. Nichols, who will begin May 1, follows Melissa Wiggins, who coached the WildCats for 12 seasons. A Bridgewater College alum, Nichols has coached at both the Division I and II levels following a brief stint in the high school ranks.

Bridgewater Claims First ODAC Golf Title
Tuesday was a day of firsts on the links at Bay Creek Resort & Club as Bridgewater College improved upon its second round lead to capture its first ODAC golf title. Mike Redwood supplied the Eagles with their first ODAC individual champion as the senior made up four strokes to tie Guilford College’s Peter Latimer before winning a one-hole playoff.

R-MC AD Kanach Announces Retirement
After six years at the helm of the Randolph-Macon College athletics program and over 40 years in athletics, R-MC Director Athletics, Denis Kanach, has announced his retirement effective at the close of the 2009-10 academic year. Since arriving in Ashland, Kanach has overseen nine ODAC team championships.

R-MC Promotes Kilcoyne to Assistant AD
Randolph-Macon Director of Athletics, Denis Kanach, has announced the promotion of Chris Kilcoyne to Assistant Athletic Director. Kilcoyne, who is in the midst of his fourth year as the Yellow Jackets Sports Information Director, will add a series of administrative duties to his current responsibilities regarding communication of all athletic teams and events.

Sanborn Named NABC Player of the Year
Guilford's Tyler Sanborn increased his list of postseason honors to that of a full catalog over the past week as the 2010 ODAC Player of the Year headlines a group of nine ODAC men’s basketball student-athletes and coaches that have earned a total of 23 different accolades. The recognition stems from the NABC, D3hoops.com and Men’s DIII News.

Ariail Heads National WBB Awards
Three-time ODAC Player of the Year and former conference top rookie, Molly Ariail, continues to add to her awards collection following four standout seasons at Randolph-Macon. The Jackets’ post heads a list of ODAC athletes that have earned recognition from several outlets including the WBCA, D3hoops.com and Women’s DIII News.

R-MC's Voelkel Honored by NCAA
Randolph-Macon forward Kevin Voelkel was named the winner of the NCAA Elite 88 Award for Division III Men’s Basketball during a pre-tournament banquet held in Salem Thursday evening. The Elite 88 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

BC's Hartman, RC's Yerkes All-Americans
Bridgewater's Courtney Hartman and Roanoke's Robin Yerkes headlined a good showing for the ODAC at the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoo Track Championships by earning All-American honors for their performances. Hartman got the nod in the pentathlon while Yerkes picked up another in 400-meter dash.

LC Sits Atop Commissioner’s Cup Rankings
The 2010 winter ODAC championships have all come to a close and the race for the Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance, is underway. Lynchburg is atop the current rankings for the overall cup. Virginia Wesleyan is at the head for the men's cup, while Washington and Lee tops the rankings for the women’s cup.

Former BC Coach Leatherman Honored
The National Association of Basketball Coaches will present its 14th annual Outstanding Service Award at the Division III meeting of this year’s NABC Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 3, 2010. Former Bridgewater men's basketball coach, Bill Leatherman, is one of two individuals receiving the NABC's highest peer-awarded honor.

Guilford Wins Second ODAC Title
Guilford made its second appearance in an ODAC Men's Championship Game on Sunday, and the Quakers headed back to Greensboro with their second conference crown. GC pulled away in the second half on its way to an 81-65 win over Randolph-Macon. The Quakers received the ODAC's automatic bid into the 2010 NCAA D-III Tournament.

W&L Wins First Women's Hoops Title
Washington and Lee made its first appearance in the ODAC Women's Basketball Tournament Championship Game stand up as the Generals defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 64-56, in Salem on Sunday. The win marks the first basketball title of any kind for W&L since 1980.

Hollins Adds Volleyball, Hires New Coach
Hollins University announced earlier this winter that it would be adding volleyball to its stable of seven collegiate sports, beginning with a provisional schedule in 2010-11. Jason Kozak has made the move from UVA to be the new head coach of the program's restart.

Emory & Henry Names New Athletic Director
Following a national search, Myra Sims was named athletic director at Emory & Henry College after serving Emory University in various athletic department positions for 23 years. From 1988 to 2003, Sims served as head coach of Emory University’s women’s basketball team, and also served as the department's liaison for major construction gifts.

GC Mentor Appenzeller Chosen for N.C. Hall
Former Guilford coach, professor and administrator Dr. Herb Appenzeller was selected for induction into the N. C. Sports Hall of Fame Monday. His class includes former football coach Jim Donnan, NFL greats Don McCauley and Mike Quick, UNC at Chapel Hill soccer All-American Carla Overbeck, UNC field hockey coach Karen Shelton and amateur golfer Paul Simson.

Werner Among Va. Hall Inductees
The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum recentley announced its inductees for the Class of 2010. Former Lynchburg College standout soccer player and Randolph-Macon College veteran coach, Helmut Werner, is amongst the eight honorees. Werner was an All-American at LC and spent 43 years coaching in Ashland.

EHC's Jennings Wins Dudley Award
Emory & Henry running back Caleb Jennings won the Dudley Award, as presented by the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Touchdown Club of Richmond. Jennings, a junior, was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league with 1,371 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns via the ground.

LC's Weir Sets NCAA Goals Record
Lynchburg's Allie Weir set the NCAA Division III Field Hockey career goals scored record on Saturday with four tallies in the Hornets win over Sweet Briar. The senior now owns 121 goals in red and white with eight regular season games remaining to pad her mark.

Guilford Honors Longtime Coach Maynard
Alumni and friends have made gifts and pledges totaling nearly $290,000 to establish a fund honoring retired Guilford College coach Stuart T. Maynard, the college announced Sept. 26 during Homecoming and Family Weekend.

2008-09 ODAC All-Academic Team
For the third straight year, the ODAC All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 honorees. With each of the ODAC's 14 schools (including Catholic) represented, the ODAC All-Academic Team grew to 1,188 student-athletes. Washington and Lee placed the most on the list with 240 honorees.

Former LC Mentor Shellenberger Passes
Once dubbed "the winningest coach ever in college soccer" by Sports Illustrated, William H. "Bill" Shellenberger, Lynchburg College's legendary soccer coach, died Sept. 7, 2009 at age 88. His funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Snidow Chapel.

LC's Weir Sets Three Records
Lynchburg's Allie Weir (pictured above scoring her 107th career goal) set three new records over the week. She became Lynchburg's all-time points and goals scored leader as well as becoming the all-time ODAC goals scored leader.

Mollie Robertson Signs on at ODAC Office
Mollie Robertson is the newest member of the ODAC office staff following her hiring as the Assistant to the Commissioner/Director of Championships. Robertson spent the past two years in the Washington and Lee sports information office following graduation from Randolph-Macon Woman's College.

VWC Names Kahn as Tennis Director
Ed Kahn, a well-known individual in the Hampton Roads tennis loop for nearly 30 years, has been named the Director of Tennis by VWC. Kahn was on staff last season as the assistant coach. He now takes over the Director's spot vacated by Frank Early.

Taylor, Webb Academic All-Americans
Washington and Lee seniors Becca Taylor and Elizabeth Webb have been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine College Division Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Team as selected by CoSIDA. Both Taylor and Webb were tabbed to the third team.

Hiltunen Award NCAA Scholarship
Randolph-Macon College women’s basketball student-athlete Amanda Hiltunen has been awarded a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The award is a $7,500 scholarship for academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.

Former Hollins AD Earns National Honor
Former Hollins University Athletic Director Lynda Calkins has received the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) AstroTurf Athletic Director of the Year award for the Division III Southeast Region. Hollins will present the award to Calkins during a halftime ceremony at Hollins’ home basketball game on Saturday, December 6.

Lynchburg Dedicates New Press Box in Honor of Wooldridge
Lynchburg College dedicated the Dan Wooldridge Press box on Wednesday afternoon on Fox Field, home of the Hornet baseball team. Dr. Kenneth Garren, Lynchburg College President, Dr. Jack Toms, LC director of athletics, Wooldridge and Stuart Fauber, Chair of the Board of Trustees, spoke before the unveiling of the plaque outside the two-level press box.

ODAC Announces 2007-08 All-Academic Team
For the second straight year, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team eclipsed 1,000 student-athletes. Through 2007-08 academic year, 1,056 ODAC athletes were honored amongst the conference’s competing schools with an All-ODAC Academic Award.
