EMU, Virginia Wesleyan Field Hockey Teams Ranked Nationally
Salem, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team is ranked #7 in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Poll. The Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College make their first appearance in the 2003 poll at #20.
Under head coach Brenda Bechler, the Royals are currently a perfect 12-0 on the season. The Royals are led by 2002 ODAC Player of the Year Kristin Moyer (Souderton, Pa./Christopher Dock) who has tallied 23 goals and seven assists for 53 points. Jonalyn Denlinger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite), last season’s Rookie of the Year, is second on the team with eight goals and 13 assists for 29 points. Katie Moyer (Blooming Glen, Pa./Christopher Dock) and Emily Chamelin (Westminster, Md./Westminster) have split time in goal with Moyer averaging 0.57 goals against per game and Chamelin giving up 0.75 goals per contest.
The Marlins are currently 11-0 on the season. They have been led by Chrissy Clancy (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) and Gayla Dalrymple-Smith (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) who each have 16 points. Clancy has tallied six goals and four assists while Dalrymple-Smith has chipped in with seven goals and two assists. Margie Baker (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) has logged 778 minutes in goal, giving up just eight goals and making 52 saves for an .867 saves percentage.
