Washington and Lee's Goodman Reaches New Heights

A feature in the latest edition of The NCAA News features recent Washington and Lee graduate Isaiah Goodman, but in a bit of a twist from his basketball background.  Goodman, who starred for four seasons as the Generals' point guard, took his ball-handling prowess 40-feet above the court this spring in a new class offered by the university.  Click below to learn more about Goodman's experience with the new aerial dancing course at Washington and Lee and how he included basketball in his routine.

RC's Yerkes, LC's Flynn Named ODAC Track Athletes of the Year

Lynchburg College’s Ricky Flynn and Roanoke College’s Robin Yerkes took home the ODAC Men and Women’s Track Athlete of the Year awards in an annual selection of the league’s coaches.  Both shined throughout the ODAC indoor and outdoor seasons as well as at the national level, each earning multiple All-American awards..  [More]


ODAC Athletes Bring Home 10 Track All-American Awards

Several of the ODAC’s top men’s and women’s outdoor track athletes competed at the 2009 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships at Marietta College (Ohio) over the weekend.  The performance of the league’s contingent was strong to say the least as athletes from Bridgewater , Eastern Mennonite , Lynchburg , Roanoke and Washington and Lee returned to the Commonwealth with 10 combined All-American honors. Washington and Lee Wins ODAC/Farm Bureau Commissioner's Cup

Washington and Lee University captured its sixth straight Dan Wooldridge Overall Sports Champion Cup, sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance ®.  The Generals, who were crowned champions in six sports during the 2008-09 athletic season, also claimed the Women's Commissioner’s Cup for the sixth successive time.  On the men's side, Lynchburg College took home the Men's Commissioner Cup. Washington and Lee Sweeps Jopson and Berkley Awards

A pair of Washington and Lee University student-athletes were honored with the league’s highest honors on Thursday afternoon at the annual Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Board of Directors meetings.  Anne Van Devender, a senior women’s soccer standout, was awarded the 2009 Marjorie Berkley Scholar-Athlete Award as the top female student-athlete in the conference.  Fellow classmate and men’s lacrosse star, Harry St. John, garnered the 2009 Harry G. “Doc” Jopson Scholar-Athlete Award as the league’s top male student-athlete.  [More]


Roanoke's Brad Moore Named ODAC SID of the Year

Brad Moore of Roanoke College has been named the 2008-09 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Sports Information Director of the Year, as voted on by the league's sports information professionals.  Moore is the conference’s fifth recipient of the SID of the Year Award, joining Guilford's Dave Walters (2004-05), Washington and Lee’s Brian Laubscher (2005-06), Mike Carpenter of Lynchburg (2006-07) and Mike Zucconi of Eastern Mennonite (2007-08). Hollins Names Aubrey Shinofield New Athletics Director

Hollins University has appointed Aubrey Shinofield as director of athletics and chair of physical education, a position she has held on an interim basis at the school since last September.  Shinofield will continue to oversee strategic planning, budgeting, compliance, marketing, and personnel and facility management for the athletic program, while coordinating and balancing physical education course offerings at the university. She succeeds Lynda Calkins, who retired as athletic director in June 2008. [More]

R-MC Names Davis '97 to Succeed Rhoades as Men's Hoops Coach

Former two-time All-ODAC choice and Colgate University assistant, Nathan Davis, is return to the ODAC as the new men's basketball coach at Randolph-Macon College.  Davis brings with him 11 years of experience coaching in the NCAA Division I ranks.  Davis succeeds Mike Rhoades in Ashland.  Rhoades resigned on April 16 to accept a coaching position with Virginia Commonwealth University. W&L's Van Devender Awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Washington and Lee senior forward Anne Van Devender (Jackson, Miss./Choate Rosemary Hall) has been awarded a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Postgraduate Scholarship.  The award is a $7,500 scholarship for academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.
