Virginia Wesleyan Men’s Soccer Team Receives Votes in National Poll

Virginia Wesleyan, Roanoke College Ranked Regionally

 

 

Salem, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan men’s soccer team received votes in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.  The Marlins narrowly missed a national ranking, however, they were ranked #4 in the South Region.  The Roanoke College men’s soccer team was also regionally ranked in the number five spot.

 

            The Marlins are currently led by Kelvin Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) who has posted 27 points on the season, scoring nine goals and giving out nine assists.  Second on the team for Virginia Wesleyan is Phil Neiland (Williamsburg, Va./Marion) who has five goals and one assist.  Sean Wheaton (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) recorded his seventh and eighth shutouts of the season this past week.  He now has 28 career shutouts, ranking him No. 2 all-time at VWC. Wheaton has not given up a goal in the last 754:26 of competition.

 

            Sophomore Elliott Stallings (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) leads the Maroons with nine goals and six assists, accounting for 24 points in Roanoke’s first thirteen contests.  Pearce Lantzy (Potomac Falls, Va.) and Paul Schwartz (Richmond, Va./Douglass Freeman) each have contributed eight points apiece on the season.  Lantzy has scored four goals for the Maroons, while Schwartz has scored three goals and given out two assists.  In goal, Harper Thorsen (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) has played 1008 minutes, giving up nine goals and making 27 saves for a .750 saves percentage.
