Men’s Soccer Teams Ranked Regionally

 

 

Salem, Va. - The Virginia Wesleyan men’s soccer team is ranked fourth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches’ Association of America (NSCAA) South Region Poll.  Roanoke and Randolph-Macon are ranked sixth and ninth, respectively in the region.

 

            The Marlins are currently led by Kelvin Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) who has posted 28 points on the season, scoring nine goals and dishing out 10 assists.  Second on the team for Virginia Wesleyan is Phil Neiland (Williamsburg, Va./Marion) who has six goals and one assist for 13 points.  Sean Wheaton (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) has played 1,253 minutes in goal, giving up 10 goals while making 55 saves for an .846 saves percentage.

 

            Sophomore Elliott Stallings (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) leads the Maroons with nine goals and six assists, accounting for 24 points in Roanoke’s 15 contests.  Pearce Lantzy (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls), Paul Schwartz (Richmond, Va./Douglass Freeman) and Dave DeMello (Shreveport, La./Caddo Magnet) all have tallied eight points on the season.  Lantzy has scored four goals for the Maroons, while Schwartz and DeMello have each scored three goals and given out two assists.  In goal, Harper Thorsen (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) has played 1,188 minutes, giving up 10 goals and making 30 saves for a .750 saves percentage.

 

            Randolph-Macon is led by Nick Bach (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) who has 17 points on five goals and seven assists.  Scott Maskell (Baltimore, Md./John Carroll School) is second on the team in scoring with four goals and one assist for nine points.  Nick Warner (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) has played 1,364 minutes in the net, giving up 13 goals and making 75 saves for an .852 saves percentage.
