ODAC Players of the Week: Oct. 5

Roughly half of the 2009 ODAC fall season is in the books as teams continue through the conference-heavy portions of their schedules.  Amongst some of the top performances were two solid rounds posted by Bridgewater's Mike Redwood (above) to earn his first collegiate golf victory at the Ted Keller Invitational.  He finished one-under-par following rounds of 71 and 72 at Hunting Hawk Golf Course in Glen Allen, Virginia.

In cross country, Lynchburg's Ricky Flynn opened his 2009 season with a victory in the 322-competitor Brown division at the Paul Short Invitational.  His mark set a new top time for the ODAC in 8K races.  Teammate Jennie Pernisi was the top ODAC finisher on the women's side, placing fifth to set a new Lynchburg 6K record and top seasonal time for the ODAC.

Monica Jenkins helped Randolph-Macon to a 3-0 record last week in field hockey.  She assisted on a goal in a win Bridgewater, scored twice against non-conference Limestone, and added both tallies in the Yellow Jackets 2-1 win over NCAC leader, the College of Wooster.

Randolph-Macon's Earl Peoples highlighted the offensive numbers in the Yellow Jackets 21-13 gridiron win over Washington and Lee.  The junior received caught an ODAC record 20 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns.  R-MC quarterback Austin Faulkner went 20-for-29 on the day, all to Peoples.  Defensively, Guilford cornerback Jordan Nelson came away with three interceptions against Southern Virginia, all in the second half.  Two of his thefts led to Quaker scores.

Soccer saw Eastern Mennonite's Mitchell Leap have a foot in each of the Royal's four tallies during the week.  He scored twice, including the game winner, and assisted on two others in a 4-3 win over Guilford.  Bridgewater's Jacey Kelley scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon, and followed that with two more goals in a 5-0 triumph over Guilford.

Lynchburg recorded a pair of ODAC wins in knocking off Bridgewater and Randolph-Macon last week.  Sophomore outside hitter Elena Kritter led the way, combining for 29 kills and 40 digs in the two matches.
