Interviews with W&L's Gardner and Simpson, BC's Stevens
One championship is in the books with four more on the horizon,
giving Brad and J.J. plenty to talk about in this week's
podcast. The pair takes the time to recap last weekend's ODAC
swimming championships with newly crowned ODAC Coach and Player of
the Year, Kami Gardner and Sarah Simpson. The show then
switches gears and previews the upcoming indoor track championships
with Bridgewater head coach Shane Stevens.
Coach Gardner is in her third season at Washington and Lee, having
won each of the past two ODAC top coaching honors. She's
helped guide to her team to the last two conference titles (giving
them W&L 20 overall), and has the privilege of coaching three
ODAC Swimmers in the Year in two time winner Lindsay Strachan and
this year's honoree, Simpson. Simpson was a winner in five
events at the championships, having won the 50-yard and 200-yard
freestyle events while teaming with other Generals to win a trio of
relay races. The senior standout added the Atlantic States
top swimming award in addition to her ODAC accolade.
Coach Stevens is in his 27th season as the architect of
the Bridgewater track and field programs that have begun some of
the most competitive squads in the conference. His men's
squad finished second at the conference championship last season,
just one year removed from winning the ODAC crown in 2008.
