Hollins Tabs Zinn as New Athletic Director
ROANOKE, Va. --- Hollins has named David
Zinn director of athletics and chair of the university's physical
education department following a national search. He will be
responsible for the management and administration of all aspects of
the intercollegiate athletic program including strategic planning,
budgeting, compliance, personnel management, year-round facilities
use management, marketing, department fundraising, and supporting
coaches in the recruitment and retention of student athletes.
Zinn comes to Hollins from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, where
he served as director of athletics with responsibility for the
overall direction of nine NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports.
He was also NCAA compliance coordinator and sports information
director. Previously, he worked at Meredith College in Raleigh,
North Carolina, where he was head women's basketball coach,
assistant athletics coordinator, NCAA compliance coordinator,
and assistant professor in the college's health, exercise, and
sports science department.
Zinn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education at
West Virginia University and a Master of Science degree in human
performance and sport studies at the University of Tennessee. He
also completed a Master of Arts degree in secondary education at
Cumberland College.
Zinn succeeds Aubrey Shinofield, who has served as director of
athletics and chair of the physical education department since
2008.
