ODAC Players of the Week

FOOTBALL
DANIEL WOODS, Emory & Henry College, Junior, Defensive Back
Woods, a junior from Bristol, Va., helped the Wasps knock-off traditional NAIA offensive power, UVA-Wise, with a pair of interceptions in Emory & Henry’s 20-10 victory. Both takeaways came in the second half as Wise attempted to claw back into the game. Woods second interception came in the end zone on Wise’s last drive of the game, securing the victory for E&H. Woods also added five tackles including a tackle for a loss. The E&H defense intercepted their opponent three times on the day.

FOOTBALL
AUSTIN FAULKNER, Randolph-Macon College, Senior, Quarterback
Faulkner, a senior from Fredericksburg, Va., led Randolph-Macon to its third straight victory by throwing five touchdowns passing without an interception in the Yellow Jackets 42-14 win over Shenandoah University. Faulkner completed 25-of-32 passes (78.1%) for 267 yards, and guided the R-MC offense through 40:15 of possession. He connected with five receivers and threw a pair of touchdowns each to Earl Peoples and Dan Crouch. He also hit Zack Midulla on a score. Faulkner and Peoples continue to put up impressive numbers together as the senior duo hooked up for 17 receptions covering 170 yards. Faulkner currently leads the ODAC in all major passing categories including passer rating (181.9), yards (822), yards per game (274.0), touchdowns (11), completions (66) and completion percentage (66-of-92, 71.7%).

FIELD HOCKEY
MARY McCARTHY, Randolph-Macon College, Senior, Attack
McCarthy, a senior from Rixeyville, Va., notched 12 points to help lead the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 week that included a win over ODAC foe Virginia Wesleyan. McCarthy notched two goals in a 6-1 win over the Marlins, and followed that up with a one-goal one-assist showing in a 5-2 over Frostburg State. She capped her week by scoring twice and assisting Mikalea Rumley on the game-winner in a 3-2 win over Shenandoah.

GOLF
MAX WYNDORF, Randolph-Macon College, Senior
Wyndorff, a senior from Chadds Ford, Pa., won the opening event of the season as he led Randolph-Macon to the team title at the Shenandoah Invitational. Wyndorf posted a 1-under-par 143 (75-68) at the Virginia National Golf Club near Winchester, Va., to win by four strokes. It was his first win in 21 career events.

MEN'S SOCCER
MICHAEL RELEFORD, Lynchburg College, Freshman, Goalkeeper
Releford, a freshman from Blacksburg, Va., burst into the starting lineup last week with immediate benefits. In his first collegiate start Wednesday, Releford made eight saves as the Hornets defeated Virginia Wesleyan 1-0 in ODAC play. LC played Salisbury, ranked second in the region by the NSCAA, to a 0-0 double-overtime tie Saturday. Releford made 11 stops to keep his team in the game despite being out-shot, 32-10.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
CHRISTINA FERNANDES, Virginia Wesleyan College, Sophomore, Forward
Fernandes, a sophomore from Tinton Falls, N.J., helped spark the Marlins to a 2-0 week. She scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Salisbury University, knocking the ball in in the 52nd minute. She also came through with an assist in the Marlins’ 3-1 victory several days later over Eastern Mennonite University. She was the only Marlin to score in both games. VWC is now 3-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC. Fernandes tops VWC’s balanced scoring with six points (2g, 2a).

VOLLEYBALL
KALA GUY, Virginia Wesleyan College, Sophomore, Outside Hitter
Guy, a sophomore from Fishersville, Va., led the Marlins to a 3-0 week with victories at Eastern Mennonite University, at the University of Mary Washington and at home against Emory & Henry College. After recording a career-high five aces in a win at UMW, Guy came back to record six in the win over Emory & Henry. She entered the week with just six aces for the season. Guy added 29 kills and 28 digs to her weekly totals, as well as five total blocks. She currently leads the Marlins in kills, aces and digs.

CROSS COUNTRY
SEAN WHITSON, Virginia Wesleyan College, Junior
Whitson, a junior from Stephens City, Va., paced the VWC men's cross country team by placing 13th overall in the Division I dominated Wolfpack Cross Country Invitational hosted by North Carolina State University. VWC's men placed third in the field of seven, trailing only NCSU and East Carolina University. Whitson finished the 5K run in a time of 16:32.6.

CROSS COUNTRY
LAUREN SCHULTZ, Washington and Lee University, Sophomore
Schultz, a sophomore from Hopkinton, Mass., earns her second straight ODAC weekly honor. Schultz was the top ODAC finisher at the Dickinson Long/Short Invitational as she placed 14th on the long course. She posted a time of 28:04.00 on the 6-kilometer track, the best for the ODAC this season at that distance.
