SBC Appoints Hazelwood New SID

SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Sweet Briar College Athletic Director Kelly Morrison has announced the appointment of Jean Hazelwood as Director of Sports Information and Athletic Facility Operations.

"I am excited to announce that Jean will take over sports information director duties in addition to her athletic facility operations position,” commented Morrison.  “With new hires joining our department, we had an opportunity to realign responsibilities and provide development opportunities.  Last year Jean tabbed herself as an ‘auxiliary sports information director’, helping with a number of sports information projects including conducting post game interviews, developing game day protocol, managing Vixen social media and writing releases.  Jean was very interested in sports information. The move is a good fit for both Jean and Vixen athletics. She will bring a good deal of energy, creativity and professionalism to the area.”

“Our athletic director Kelly Morrison, and Sweet Briar College have provided me with an outstanding career opportunity,” said Hazelwood. “I appreciate being entrusted with managing Vixen athletics sports information and am eager to work with our SID staff as Vixen athletics evolves.”

Hazelwood inherits a staff of two assistant sports information directors, Danielle Delude and Jess Lamina.  Lamina enters her third year at the post, while Delude begins her second year in the assistant position.  Delude and Lamina both coach in the Vixen athletic department, softball and field hockey, respectively and are also both physical education instructors.

Additionally, Hazelwood gains help managing athletic facility operations.  Eboni Preston, recently hired head lacrosse coach, also serves as the assistant director of facility operations. While Teresa Boylan, formerly the sports information director and head tennis coach, remains as the head tennis coach and picks up senior woman’s administrator duties as well as physical education lecturer responsibilities.

In preparation for the 2011-2012 Vixen athletics campaign Hazelwood notes, “I attended the spring Old Dominion Athletic Conference sports information meeting, participated in the Virginia Sports Information Directors annual meeting and worked with the league office.”  Also during the summer, Hazelwood concentrated on learning the nuances associated with stat keeping and web content management.

Hazelwood’s sports information appointment officially began July 1, 2011.
