ODAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

BASEBALL
J.T. Williamson, Randolph-Macon,
Freshman, Pitcher
Williamson, a freshman from
Springfield, Va., came out of the bullpen to earn his first
conference win of the year for the Yellow Jackets. He pitched the
final three innings against Eastern Mennonite, allowing only one
hit and one walk while striking out a pair of his three scoreless
frames. Williamson is now 2-1 on the season, having also earned a
win in the season's opening game against St. Mary's (Md.).

BASEBALL
Brian Jordan, Randolph-Macon, Senior,
Outfielder
Jordan, a senior from Columbia, Va.,
finished 5-for-8 with three RBI, a double, and three runs in the
Yellow Jackets ODAC opener against Eastern Mennonite. Jordan picked
up the game winning hit in the night cap of R-MC’s
double-header with EMU, singling in Zach Broaddus with two outs in
the bottom of the 10th to lead Randolph-Macon to the win. He also a
walked twice in the second game, giving him a .700 on-base
percentage for the weekend.

GOLF
John Phillips, Bridgewater,
Senior
Phillips, a senior from Richmond, Va.,
opened the 2012 fall campaign in winning fashion as he claimed
individual medialist honors at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate at
Pine Needles Lodge and Country Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
Phillips led wire-to-wire in the two-round event, beginning with a
first round 73 on the par 71 track that covered 7,015 yards. His
two-over total was one shot better than second place heading into
the final round. He responded with the low round of the tournament,
firing a two-under 69 to return to even par and win by two strokes.
The victory is the first for Phillips in 2011-12, and also marks
his first top-five finish since the fall's first tournament, the
Tom Kinder Memorial.

MEN'S LACROSSE
Mac Means, Washington and Lee, Junior,
Attack
Means, a junior from Sewickley, Pa.,
helped lead the men’s lacrosse team to an 11-10 win over
Washington College on Saturday by recording four goals on five
shots. He also assisted on another goal and picked up three ground
balls. With the score tied at 9-9 in the final quarter, Means
scored with 6:28 remaining and then assisted on the game-winner
just 58 seconds later as the Generals defeated the Shoremen for the
fourth straight time. For the season, Means leads the team in
scoring with 12 points on eight goals and four assists.

MEN'S TENNIS
Taylor Shamshiri, Washington and Lee,
Freshman, No. 1/2 Singles, No. 1/2 Doubles
Shamshiri, a freshman from Austin,
Texax, picks up his second straight weekly honor as he helped the
Generals to a 5-0 week in conference play by recording a 4-0
singles record and a 3-1 doubles mark. He notched three wins at No.
2 singles and posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over E&H’s Matt
Nelson at No. 1 singles. He also teamed with Hayden White to post
two wins at No. 1 doubles and one at No. 2 doubles. The duo fell to
Guilford’s Clayton Hamilton and Tyler Mercier at No. 1
doubles. For the season, Shamshiri is 10-7 in singles and 9-7 in
doubles.

OUTDOOR TRACK
Kirk Lewis, Shenandoah, Senior,
Sprints/Javelin
Lewis, a senior from Fairfax, Va., had
a big and busy day at the season-opening Salisbury Opener over the
weekend. Lewis finished in the top three in four individual events
and helped his Hornets' teammates to victory in the 4x400-meter
relay (3:28.32). Individually, he placed second in the 400-meter
dash (51.24) and came in third in the 100-meter (11.55) and
200-meter (23.39) dashes as well as the javelin (149' 11.25").

OUTDOOR TRACK
Amanda Theall, Shenandoah, Junior,
Throws
Theall, a junior from Blossvale, N.Y.,
set one and nearly set two school records at the Salisbury Opener
over the weekend. Shenandoah's lead thrower won the shot put with a
school-record toss of 11.28 meters (37' 0.00"). She also won the
discus with a fling of 34.90 meters (114' 6.00"). Theall almost put
her name on the Hornets' hammer throw record as she placed second
in the event with a heave of 36.33 meters (119' 2.25").

SOFTBALL
Heather Lewis, Randolph-Macon, Junior,
Pitcher
Lewis, a junior from Glen Allen, Va.,
picks up her second weekly honor after winning three games over the
past week and improving to 5-0 on the young season. She tossed a
pair of complete game victories, defeating Averett, 3-2, and
shutting down Franklin & Marshall, 7-3. Her third win was
actually her middle performance of the week as Lewis pitched 1.1
innings in the first game against F&M. She made sure she would
receive the win as Lewis smacked a two-out RBI single in the bottom
of the eighth for the game-winning hit. For the week, Lewis spent
15.1 innings in the circle. She surrendered six runs, four earned,
on 16 hits while walking her first batters of the year. She also
fanned seven, which includes a half-dozen strike outs in the
complete game win over the Diplomats in game two.

SOFTBALL
Laura Bauer, Randolph-Macon, Senior, 1st
Base/Catcher
Bauer, a senior from New Kent, Va.,
finished the weekend 8-for-14 from the plate, belting two homeruns
and driving in four RBI. Bauer added two runs and helped lead R-MC
to a record of 3-1 over the weekend. She posted a hit in each of
the Yellow Jackets four games, including a 3-for-4 showing in game
one against Franklin & Marshall. She currently ranks in the top
five in the ODAC in batting (.531), runs batted in (15), and
homeruns (2).

WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Lesley Buckingham, Lynchburg, Senior,
Attack
Buckingham, a senior from Herndon,
Va., notched six goals in the first game of the year against Berry
College in a 17-7 victory. She also registered four draw controls,
two ground balls and forced three turnovers in the contest.
Buckingham also converted on her only free-position attempt of the
day for one of her goals.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Sonja Meighan, Washington and Lee,
Freshman, No. 1 Singles, No. 2 Doubles
Meighan, a freshman from McLean, Va.,
posted a 5-1 overall record (3-0 at #1 singles, 2-1 at #2 doubles)
over the weekend, helping the Generals win the ITA Indoor National
Championships. She dropped her only match of the championships in
doubles play against Johns Hopkins in the first round of play. The
Generals, ranked #2 in the Atlantic South Region and #8 in the
country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation, faced and
defeated #11 Johns Hopkins, #16 DePauw and #13 Carnegie Mellon for
the title. Meighan singles wins came over JHU's Elaine Baik (6-1,
6-3), who is ranked #7 in the Atlantic South Region. She also
topped DePauw's Kelly Gebert (6-3, 6-3), the Central Region's
eighth-ranked singles player, and came back to defeat CMU's Laura
Chen (3-6, 6-4, 6-0), who is ranked #18 in the Atlantic South.
Meighan is currently rated #2 in the Atlantic South behind
Gabrielle Clark from Emory.
