ODAC Players of the Week

FOOTBALL
Mitchell Thompson, Washington and Lee,
Jr., Def. Back
Thompson, a junior from Memphis,
Tenn., helped the Generals to their first win over a ranked
opponent since 2010. Thompson spearheaded a Washington and Lee
defensive effort that bent but didn't break as the Generals topped
23rd-ranked Centre College, 34-16, on Saturday. Thompson led the
unit with 10 tackles, including nine solo stops. The defensive back
helped W&L maintain a 21-10 halftime lead when he put the
clamps on a fourth down play inside the W&L 25-yard line when
he tackled the ball carrier for a one-yard loss with less than a
minute to go in the frame. For the season, Thompson is third on the
squad with 19 tackles.

FOOTBALL
Matt Pawlowski, Guilford, Fr.,
Quarterback
Pawlowski, a freshman from Greensboro,
N.C., helped the Quakers to their first win of the 2012 campaign as
he had a hand in four of Guilford's six touchdowns in its 45-35
shootout with Averett University. Pawloski was 18-of-28 passing for
239 yards and three touchdowns, and he added a six-yard touchdown
as the game's final score to ice the victory. Pawlowski and
receiver Nick Mearite had a strong connection as the pair hooked up
for eight catches that covered 125 yards and included two first
half touchdowns, one coming on a fourth-and-goal play. His three
touchdown passes and 64.3 completion percentage are season-highs
for the first-year signal-caller.

FIELD HOCKEY
Sarah DeLuca, Shenandoah, Senior,
Attack
DeLuca, a senior from Clarksville,
Md., helped Shenandoah improve to 5-2 with a pair of strong
performances in wins over Notre Dame of Maryland (13-0) and
Stevenson (2-0). She opened the week against NDM by setting a new
Shenandoah field hockey record with five goals and 11 points as she
added an assist to her output in SU's big win over the Gators. On
Saturday, DeLuca provided the offensive punch with both goals in
the Hornets' second straight shutout. She currently leads the ODAC
in goals scored (10) and points (21).

MEN'S GOLF
John Dozier III, Virginia Wesleyan,
Freshman
Dozier, a freshman from Manakin Sabot,
Va., started off his collegiate career with a bang as he won
individual medalist honors at the season-opening Shenandoah
Invitational at the Winchester Country Club in Winchester, Va.
Dozier completed two rounds on the par 72 6,806-yard track in
4-over par 148 (73-75) to win by one stroke over Randolph-Macon's
Scott Hellmuth and Newport News Apprentice golfer Ben Hunter.
Dozier's first round 73 tied for with Hunter's opening-18 tally as
the low-round of the tournament.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins,
Junior
Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach,
Va., has the distinction of becoming the first women's golfer to
earn an ODAC Golf of the Week award. At the Hollins Invitational,
Cheng helped HU to the team title by finishing second overall and
first among ODAC players on the 5,834-yard par 72 track at Ashley
Plantation Golf Club. Her two round total of 155 (79-76) came in at
11-over par, two strokes behind Emily Javadi from Sewanee. Hollins'
team total of 314 (158-126, +26) was took strokes clear of Sewanee
for the team crown.

MEN'S SOCCER
Kevin Gorman, Bridgewater, Senior,
Forward
Gorman, a senior from Annapolis, Md.,
helped the Eagles to a 2-0 week and extend their winning streak to
five straight games. Gorman notched all three goals in a 3-1
non-conference win over Stevenson on Wednesday. His goals came in
an 11-minute span late in the second half. He scored twice in the
76th minute and added a third in the 88th minute before Stevenson
regrouped with its lone tally 1:04 from full time. On Saturday,
Gorman helped BC claw back from a 2-0 deficit against Randolph
College in the ODAC opener. His assist on Daniel Visone's goal tied
the game in the 76th minute. For the season, Gorman is second in
the ODAC in points (11) and tied for second with four goals.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Carmen Graves, Roanoke, Senior,
Forward
Graves, a senior from Christiansburg,
Va., helped Roanoke to a 2-0-1 week that including a 1-1 draw with
nationally second-ranked Emory University on Sunday. Graves opened
her week with two goals in a 6-1 win over Guilford. She followed
that with an assist in a 2-0 shutout of Shenandoah for the Maroons'
second conference win of the week. Against Emory, Graves supplied
Roanoke's scoring effort against the NSCAA Atlantic South Region's
top rated squad with a goal in the 56th minutes. Her seven points
this week marked the first output for the three-sport star (indoor
track, outdoor track) this season.

VOLLEYBALL
Mallory Slade, Virginia Wesleyan,
Sophomore, Setter
Slade, a sophomore from Burlingon,
N.C., helped that Marlins to a 3-0 week that included a trio of
victories over ODAC foes Lynchburg (3-1), Hollins (3-0) and Roanoke
(3-0). The Marlins' setter passed out 99 assists on the week, just
one helper short of averaging 10 per set (99 in 10 sets played).
She also picked her spots well on the attack, collected seven kills
on 13 attacks with just one error for a .462 attack percentage.
Against Lynchburg, Slade handed out 44 assists with seven digs and
a block assist. The 44 helpers marked her sixth match this season
with at least 40 assists. She followed that with 32 assists against
Hollins and 23 more against Roanoke. She added three kills and
three digs in the latter match.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Cody Stanton, Lynchburg,
Junior
Stanton, a junior from Memphis, N.Y.,
set the ODAC's seasonal top-time at eight kilometer distances as he
finished 17th in a field of 141 at the Iona Meet of Champions, an
event that was largely dominated by NCAA Division I competition. He
crossed the finish line in 26:09.77, which is the best 8K time in
the ODAC by more than a minute over teammate Lawrence Minor.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Leidy J. Arias Bernal, Lynchburg,
Freshman
Bernal, a freshman from Centreville,
Va., continued an impressive start to her first collegiate campaign
as she competed in the NCAA Division I dominated Iona Meet of
Champions on Saturday. She crossed the finish line with a time of
25:12.81 in 50th position. Her time is the fourth-fastest in the
conference this season.
