ODAC Players of the Week

FOOTBALL
Danny Grogg, Bridgewater, Sr., Defensive
Line
Grogg, a senior from Harrisonburg,
Va., had a big day along the interior of the Eagles defensive line
as he helped Bridgewater move to 3-0. The BC defense held
Shenandoah to just 212 yards of total offense in the league opener
for both squads, which also mark the first ODAC competition for new
confernece member SU. Grogg made eight stops on the day and was a
staple in the Hornets' backfield with three tackles for a loss that
cost SU 10 yards of offense. He also was in on both of
Bridgewater's sacks with a solo effort and then combined with
interior line-mate Joel Francis on a sack that ended the game as
Shenandoah was attempting to work into field goal position to
potentially tie the game.

FOOTBALL
Willie Logan, Bridgewater, Jr.,
Quarterback
Logan, a junior from Luray, Va.,
helped direct Bridgewater to its third straight win to start the
season and fourth straight dating back to last season. Logan was
strong through the air on a day when the BC rushing offense was
held in check as he went 17-of-31 for 261 yards and threw for both
of the Eagles' touchdowns. He hit Tyler Moneymaker with a 27-yard
touchdown pass to open the game's scoring, and then found Shawn Lee
for a 63-yard touchdown to put Bridgewater ahead, 14-7, in the
third quarter. He spread the ball around to his receivers and
backs, completing passes to nine different players. Through three
games, Logan has thrown four touchdown passes against just one
interception.

FIELD HOCKEY
Lindsay Leonard, Lynchburg, Sr.,
Midfielder
Leonard, a senior from Yorktown, Va.,
helped the Hornets to a 2-0 week with wins over Wesley and
Shenandoah. In the 4-0 neutral site win over Wesley, Leonard
notched a goal and added an assist to have three points on the day.
In the 4-0 win over Shenandoah, Leonard opened the game's scoring
off of a penalty corner. In addition, she kept enormous pressure on
SU, firing 16 shots with 11 of them on SU's cage. Leonard is
currently third in the league in points with 16.

GOLF
Colby Francis, Lynchburg,
Freshman
Francis, a freshman from Gladys, Va.,
was the top ODAC finisher at the Tom Kinder Memorial at Lakeview
Golf Course last week. Francis opened his collegiate career with an
even par 72 on day one, but then followed with a 3-under par 69 in
round two on the 6,500-yard par 72 track. His two-day 141 was good
for third overall, seven shots off the lead and one stroke back of
second place. His 69 was tied for the second-best round of the
tournament behind individual champion Trevor Banks' (Va. Intermont)
opening round 65.

GOLF
Elizabeth Cheng, Hollins,
Junior
Cheng, a junior from Virginia Beach,
Va., picks up her second weekly honor in as many weeks as she won
the McDaniel Invitational over the weekend. Cheng fired a 2-over
par 74 to win the event by four strokes over teammate Shelby Estes.
In two tournaments this season, Cheng has a runner-up finish and an
individual title while lowering her per-round average to 76.3. Her
efforts helped Hollins win the team title by five strokes over
Gettysburg. Cheng and Estes were the only two golfers to break 80
in the field.

MEN'S SOCCER
Max Quellhorst, Washington and Lee, So.,
Midfielder
Quellhorst, a sophomore from
Centerville, Ohio, helped Washington and Lee to a 2-0 week as he
had an assist on the second goal in a 3-0 win over Virginia
Wesleyan, and then followed that with the lone goal of the game in
the 69th minute for a 1-0 win over Hampden-Sydney. The goal and the
assist were the first two of the season for the second-year
midfielder.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Kelli Uresti, Guilford, Fr.,
Midfielder
Uresti, a freshman from Buda, Texas,
paced the Quakers to a 3-0 week with three road wins, including two
in conference play. She scored her first two college goals in the
Quakers' 5-4 overtime win over crosstown-rival Greensboro College.
She followed that with one goal and three assists for a career-high
five points in Guilford's 5-1 win at Hollins. She wrapped up her
week with two goals in the Quakers' 6-0 road win over Eastern
Mennonite. On the season, Uresti is tops on the team with 13
points.

VOLLEYBALL
Mallory Carter, Randolph-Macon, Sr.,
Outside Hitter
Carter, a senior from Moseley, Va.,
helped Randolph-Macon to a 4-2 week with both its losses coming to
nationally ranked teams --- No. 6 Emory and No. 12 Elmhurst. Carter
earned a spot on the Emory Invitational All-Tournament Team after
collecting 72 kills, 31 digs and five aces in four matches. Prior
to the tournament, R-MC's week included a pair of 3-0 wins over
Eastern Mennonite and Mary Washington, in which Carter notched 16
kills, five aces and 16 digs in addition to her totals at Emory.
She racked up four matches with double-digits in kills including a
career-high 22 in a 3-2 win over Maryville. She later eclipsed that
mark with 25 kills in a 3-2 loss to #12 Elmhurst. She also had 12
and 10 digs in those matches, respectively. Carter, who averaged
4.0 kills/set this week, has 1,181 winners for her career and
stands just six shy of moving past Katie King (1997-2000) for
second-place all-time in R-MC history. Maggie McDearmon (2003-06)
holds the school record with 1,243 kills.

CROSS COUNTRY
Tim Smith, Roanoke,
Senior
Smith, a senior from Roanoke, Va.,
picks up his second weekly award of the season after winning the
Roanoke Invitational on Saturday. Smith completed the
eight-kilometer course at Mowles Spring Park with a time of
27:54.30. Smith's time was 40.70 seconds faster than the second
place time as he blistered the 42-runner field at the site of the
2009 ODAC Cross Country Championships.

CROSS COUNTRY
Grace England, Roanoke,
Sophomore
England, a sophomore from Dublin, Va.,
won the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday. She completed the
five-kilometer course in 20:55.90, besting the second place time in
the 41-runner field by 32.10 seconds at Salem's Mowles Spring Park,
site of the 2009 ODAC Championshps. England's win helped Roanoke to
the team title in the event as the Maroons' had all five of their
scoring runners place inside the top-11.
