Randolph-Macon Wins ODAC Baseball Title, 4-2, Over Virginia Wesleyan
Yellow Jackets Capture Third ODAC Baseball Title

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Randolph-Macon College baseball team captured the school's first ODAC championship since 1987 with a 4-2 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College at Lynchburg City Stadium.

R-MC (25-15) earns the league's automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Tournament that will start on May 14th at eight pre-determined regional sites.

The Yellow Jackets grabbed an early advantage in the second inning when Jay Lichter singled home Mike Wallace with two outs to give R-MC a 1-0 lead.

The Marlins (26-14-1) rallied and scored a single run in the third inning and took the lead 2-1 on a Phil Cadle RBI double.

Tournament Most Outstanding Player Greg Meleski provided the equalizer with a one-out single in the sixth that scored James Bierline and knotted the game at 2-2.

The Jackets scored the winning runs in the top-half of the eighth inning after Meleski reached second to open the inning on a ball misplayed in the VWC outfield.  Charlie Hartt followed with an RBI double to put R-MC in front 3-2.  Randolph-Macon padded its lead when Jeff Beck plated Hartt with an RBI single to make the score 4-2.

Hartt started the game on the mound for R-MC and went 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs, while striking out five.  Devin O'Meara tossed 1.2 inning of perfect relief to pick up his first win of the season.  Nick Simons notched his first save of the season, tossing the final two innings and only allowing one base runner.

The trio capped off a four day pitching performance that saw R-MC hurlers post a 2.75 ERA, including the Jacket bullpen that allowed just two runs in 8.1 innings of work.

The R-MC offense hit .301 for the tournament, scoring 36 runs, 24 of which coming in the seventh inning of after.
