Golf Set for Poplar Grove
Guilford Seeks Third Straight
League Crown

SALEM, Va. --- The 2008 ODAC Golf Championship will
take place April 19-21 at Poplar Grove Golf Club in
Amherst, Virginia. Guilford College returns as the top
seed in the tournament, looking to claim its third
straight ODAC title. Amongst the Quakers’ hurdles are
Washington and Lee University and Hampden-Sydney
College, which trail Guilford by 2.6 strokes and 4.6
strokes, respectively.
Guilford, currently ranked No. 12 by Golfstat, has won
eight of the last ten ODAC Championships, including the
past two and enters this year’s championship with a
season average of 299.8 strokes in 20 rounds. Some
Quaker golfers to watch include sophomore Peter Latimer
(74.6 per round average), junior Burton Wood (75.4) and
newcomer Johnathan Wade (75.8).
Washington and Lee hits the links with a season average
of 302.4 strokes in 18 rounds. Senior Nathaniel James,
who tied for third place in the 2007 outing, boasts the
ODAC’s top individual ranking with a season average of
72.2 strokes and is currently ranked eighth among all
Division III golfers on Golfstat. Another General to
keep tabs on is sophomore Matt Langan who is carrying a
76.7 average into the championship.
Hampden-Sydney brings a 304.4 season average in 19
rounds to Amherst. The Tigers return senior Bob Boykin
who matched W&L’s James for third a season ago. Boykin
enters this weekend holding a 75.6 average. Another
Tiger to keep an eye on throughout each of the three
rounds is senior Nick Combs, who also shoots at a 75.6
clip.
The
first round of competition kicks off on Saturday, April
19 at 12:00 p.m. with the second and third rounds
following on Sunday and Monday, both at 9:00 a.m. For
