SALEM, Va. ---
The 2008 ODAC men's tennis championship will be decided
between the top two seeds for the second straight
season. Washington and Lee University made its way
past fifth-seeded Guilford, 9-0, to start the day.
Hampden-Sydney College needed a comeback effort to
defeat three seed Roanoke College, 5-4.
The championship match is slated for 2:00 p.m. on
Sunday, April 20, at Washington and Lee.
The top-seeded Generals (16-4) dropped only one set in
the first semifinal. They will be vying for their
record 28th men's tennis crown and 13th straight dating
back to 1996.
The Tigers (14-2) fell behind early as the Maroons won
the #1 and #3 doubles matches. A late effort from
H-SC's #2 pair saved a doubles sweep. Weather
forced singles action into the W&L Duchoissis Tennis
Center. Playing without reigning ODAC Player of
the Year, Will Moss, freshman Rich Pugh stepped in and
set the tone with a three-set win at #1 singles.
The Tigers claimed wins at #4, #5 and #6 to secure H-SC's
spot in the finals and a shot at its third ODAC title.
