ODAC Women’s Soccer Championship Set
PK’s Send Lynchburg to
Roanoke for Finals
October 31, 2007
SALEM, Va. ---
The ODAC Women’s Soccer Tournament experience the
conference’s first postseason upset on Saturday evening
as fourth-seeded Lynchburg College played even with
Virginia Wesleyan College through two overtimes periods
before defeating the Marlins 3-1 on penalty kicks. In
the other semifinal, Roanoke College sandwiched two
second half goals around one Washington & Lee University
tally to defeat the Generals, 2-1.
Saturday’s championship match will be played at Kerr
Stadium on Roanoke’s campus. Game time is set for 7:00
p.m.
Kristen McCoy scored the first goal for the Maroons in
the 54th minute, but Washington & Lee tied it
up less than four minutes later with a tally from Shana
Oltmans. Jessica Joyner gave the Maroons their
game-deciding margin at the 61:08 mark, collecting a
rebound with a one-time shot into the far netting.
Lynchburg’s advancement returns the Hornets to the
championship game after a one-year hiatus. Lynchburg
won the conference titles in 2004 and 2005, having won
six championships all-together. Roanoke’s absence from
championship play has been a little longer. The
Maroons’ last appearance was in 2001 when Lynchburg
netted a goal in double-overtime to defeat Roanoke,
2-1. The Maroons have won three ODAC women’s soccer
championships, the last coming in 1998.
