LYNCHBURG,
VA -- The second-seeded Hampden-Sydney Tigers pounded out 10 runs on 14 hits and
got a complete game performance from ace John Schoenholtz to top the
fifth-seeded Guilford Quakers 10-1 at the 2006 Old Dominion Athletic Conference
Baseball Tournament.
Schoenholtz
scattered eight hits, allowed just one run while striking out four and walking
just one Quaker to improve his record to 8-2 on the season.
HSC
got all the runs Schoenholtz would need in the first inning, scoring three times
to take an early lead. In that
inning, Schoenholtz helped himself by singling through the left-side scoring
John Apperson and Todd Harrell. Schoenholtz
came around to score on a double down the left field line off the bat by Josh
Michael.
The
Tigers added four more runs in the home-half of the fourth inning to make the
score 7-0. The highlight of the
inning was a two-run double by Harrell.
Dave
Whigham was saddled with the loss for GC after going 3.1 innings, allowing seven
hits and seven runs. With the loss,
Whigham record drops to 8-3 on the season.
