SALEM, Va. --- Senior guard Mike Edwards drained a three-pointer with 10.4 seconds to play, catapulting Hampden-Sydney College past Emory & Henry College 102-100 in the second quarterfinal of the ODAC Men’s Basketball Championship tournament.  The Tigers, 16-10 overall, move on to face Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.  The Wasps end their campaign with a 14-11 record.

Just seven seconds after Andrew Hart put the Wasps up 100-98, Edwards took a pass on the left wing and didn’t hesitate in knocking down the eventual game winner.  He converted a free throw down the stretch to complete the game’s scoring.

Both teams surrendered big leads en route to the exciting finish.  E&H led by as many as 17 points in the first half, using its run-and-gun to wrong-foot the Tigers.  Hampden-Sydney eventually composed themselves and clawed back to a tie by halftime at 44-44.

HSC maintained its moment early in the second half, moving out to a 15-point lead with 13:05 to play following a lay-up and one by junior Drew Prehmus.  Emory & Henry matched the Tigers first half comeback effort, drawing even at 98-all after a lay-in by Kyle Huckins to set the tone for the game’s finish.

"Being down [17] in this type of game is no big deal," said HSC head coach, Bubba Smith.  "And being up 13 or 14 is not a big deal, so you can't get excited one way or too down the other."

Senior Tyler Murray led the Tigers with 26 points and 16 rebounds with classmate Edwards adding 23 points and four assists.  Freshman Turner King poured in 12 points to go with a dozen rebounds.  Senior Matt Green chipped hit a trio of three-pointers on the way to 18 points, and junior Prehmus added 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Sophomore Camillo Weinz led five Wasps in double figures with 16 points.  Seniors Korey Townsend, Anthony Hairston and Robert Hudson added 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively.  Sophomore Cain Landreth hit for 12 markers.

Game time for the first men’s semifinal feature Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan is set for Saturday, February 24, at 1:00 p.m. in the Salem Civic Center.
