ODAC Podcast: September 28, 2012
Interviews with HU's Mannino and W&L's Gyscek
FOREST, Va. --- In this week's ODAC
Podcast, Brad and J.J. talk a little football as the conference
slate begins for all teams, but they go in-depth with men's and
women's golf as Hollins University women's golf coach Bill Mannino
and Washington and Lee University men's and women's golf coach Pete
Gyscek join the show.
Mannino has been Hollins' golfing mentor since 2007 following
successful playing and coaching careers at Temple University.
Since taking over Hollins' reins, Mannino has helped the
program challenge in regional and national tournaments.
Success for Hollins has continued throughout his tenure with
squads that have been ranked in the upper tier by Golfstat.
Former standout Vicki Kasza '09 and current top-scorer
Elizabeth Cheng have earned Scholar All-American status from the
NGCA (now the WGCA). Cheng narrowly missed qualification for
the NCAA Division III Championships last season, while Kasza
finished 16th at the 2008 national event.
Gyscek is in his second year as the men's golf head coach and is
the inaugural coach of the women's program as it embarks on its
first season of competition. Gyscek was formerly the
assistant men's and women's golf coach at the College of William
& Mary. During his tenure, Tribe men and
women combined to tie or break 50 school records,
including having both a man and woman set school records for season
and career scoring average at the school.
