NCAA Division III Mission Statement

The mission of the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee(SAAC) is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes; protecting student-athlete welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image, while maintaining the tenants of the Division III philosophy.  (www.ncaa.org)

Article I - Name

The name of the organization shall be the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)

Article II – Purpose

1.      To promote student-athlete welfare at R-MC

2.      To provide the student-athlete with a voice at R-MC

3.      To encourage communication and support between varsity programs

4.      To increase campus awareness of athletic events

5.      To encourage student-athlete involvement in the surrounding community

Article III – Membership

1.      Each varsity program shall appoint one representative to the SAAC

2.      Representatives must be student-athletes in good standing with the college and eligible for NCAA competition

3.      Representatives shall be appointed for a one year term

Article IV – Faculty Advisor

1.      The SAAC advisor shall be a faculty member of the R-MC athletic department

2.      The advisor shall inform the SAAC of pertinent information within the athletic department

3.      The SAAC may select a new advisor with a three-fourths vote of the full membership

Article V – Executive Board

1.      The executive board of the SAAC shall consist of a President, a Vice-President, and an ODAC Liaison

2.      The duties of the President shall be to preside over all meetings, to serve as the official representative of the SAAC, and to maintain communication with the advisor concerning any other necessary business of the SAAC

3.      The duties of the Vice-President shall be to record voting results and other pertinent information put forth at meetings, to assist the President with his/her duties, and to carry out the duties of the President in his/her absence

4.      The duties of the ODAC Liaison shall be to attend all ODAC SAAC meetings, to communicate between R-MC and ODAC SAACs, and to assist the President and Vice-President with their duties

Article VI – Meetings

1.      Meetings will be called as necessary by the advisor and/or the executive board

2.      Any SAAC member may request a meeting of the full SAAC

3.      Fifty percent of the membership constitutes a quorum

4.      For a measure to pass, it must receive a majority of the votes cast

5.      Attendance is mandatory for all members

6.      One unexcused absence will result in a warning

7.      Two unexcused absences will result in the selection of a new team representative

8.      If a member cannot be present, he or she must inform the advisor or any member of the executive board and an alternate representative must be present

Article VII – Committees

1.      The executive board may create committees as needed by the SAAC

Article VIII – Amendments

1.      Any member may propose an amendment to the SAAC Constitution

2.      The amendment must be written and presented to the members

3.      The amendment will pass with a three-fourths vote of the members   

 

Ratification

This constitution will pass as ratified with a three-fourths vote of the members present at the meeting at which the vote is held
