ODAC Football Report: Week 7

Big Offense, Stout Defense Headline Weekend
Week seven of ODAC football saw some offenses put up big numbers
and some defenses keep the score in single digits.
Bridgewater running back Thomas Tate had one of those explosive
offensive days, running for 157 yards and three touchdowns to lead
the Eagles to a 40-9 triumph over Guilford. Tate had
touchdown runs of 15 and 77 yards in the first quarter, later
adding an eight-yard jaunt just before the intermission. The
defense bent but didnt break agains the Quakers, even with Billy
Watkins throwing for 184 yards and Justin Parker moving into ninth
on Guiford's rushing list with 1,302 career yards.
Hampden-Sydney, which debuted at #21 in both the American Football
Coaches Association (AFCA) and D3football.com Top 25 polls,
remained undefeated with a 38-31 victory over Washington and
Lee. Quarterback Corey Sedlar threw three touchdowns, but was
intercepted three times including a pair of WLU defensive back
Donavon Sawyer. Tigers' running back Kirk Rohle ran for three
touchdowns on the day to off-set a career-receiving day from
Generals receiver Ryan Welsh. The senior wideout had nine
catches for 156 yards and three TDs.
Randolph-Macon used a bruising running game and stout defense to
record their first shutout in 10 years with a 19-0 win over Emory
& Henry. Running back Thaddeus Scruggs churned out 235
yards on 42 carries, both career-highs, as the Yellow Jackets
commanded an 11-minute advantage in time of possession.
Defensively, converted tight end Joe Pricone had an all-around
solid afternoon in helping keep the Wasps off the scoreboard and
under 200 yards of total offense. Pricone, a converted tight
end, made five stops, including a sack, with an interception and
one other pass break-up. E&H's Caleb Jennings rushed for
48 yards, only the second time this season the ODAC's leading
rusher has been kept under the 100-yard plateau.
Catholic picked up its first win of the season in a 38-13 result at
Gallaudet. Running back Rich Barry ran for 115 yards and four
touchdowns, all from inside the Gallaudet five-yard line.
Quarterback Dylan Knight added 72 more yards on the ground in
addition to 96 through the air. Defensively, Joe Martin
and Tom Kelly record quarterback sacks, and Kyle Gaughan returned a
fumble 16 yards for a touchdown.
