After running wild in 2010, can the Generals continue their march in 2011?
Washington and Lee University took running the ball to a new
level in the ODAC in 2010, setting multiple team single-game and
season records. The Generals' explosive ground game led them
to an undefeated league record and a trip to the NCAA Division III
Tournament. With 17-of-22 starters back in the fold, the
question is 'what's in store as an encore in 2011?'
W&L wasn't the only program to extend its schedule into the
postseason in 2010. Hampden-Sydney College joined the
Generals in the field of 32, giving the ODAC two representatives
for the first time since 2000 (Bridgewater and Emory & Henry).
The Tigers rode the league's most prolific passing game and
top-rated defense to the playoffs. Will quarterback Travis
Lane and the Tigers' defense be as good as they were last year?
Each of the ODAC's seven gridiron teams boasts a squad strength
and standout players that could lead to more wins in 2011.
But the one unique situation in the league belongs to
Guilford College as the Quakers welcome a new boss to Greensboro.
Chris Rusiewicz (pronounced "roo-SEV-itch") looks to make an
immediate impact in his first collegiate head coaching gig, hoping
to quickly erase the memory of last year's winless campaign.
