Lynchburg Included in First NCAA Field Hockey Regional Rankings
Hornets Fifth in South Region, 17th in the Nation
FOREST, Va. --- The NCAA released its first set
of regional rankings on Wednesday and Lynchburg College sits fifth
in the South Region for Division III field hockey. The Hornets
are 12-3 overall and 6-0 in league play. Additionally, LC
has a 10-2 record in the region.
NCAA Division III field hockey is comprised of six regions across
the country with the top five teams in each region are ranked (save
for the Great Lakes Region, which only ranks three
teams). Salisbury University currently sits atop the South
Region list, while the University of Mary Washington holds the
second spot. Christopher Newport University and Franklin
& Marshall College sit in the third and fourth spots,
respectively.
Lynchburg also represents the ODAC in the latest National
Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III national
poll as the 17th rated squad in the country.
As a team, LC's conference-best 3.86 goals per game are tied for
15th in the national statistical rankings. Individually,
Lindsay Leonard is tied for first in the league with 13 goals,
including an ODAC-best four game-winning tallies, and Shelly Milks
has dished out eight assists this season, which is the second-best
mark in the league.
