WLU Finishes 17th at NCAA Tournament

Gibson, Watts Share Team Low Totals
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. --- The Washington and Lee
golf team shot a final round score of 316 (303-302-311-316--1232)
to finish 17th out of 36 teams at the NCAA Division III
Championship held at the PGA Village on Saturday afternoon.
Oglethorpe University claimed the team championship after shooting
a score of 301-284-290-289--1164 (+12), while La Verne's Mitchell
Fedorka and Oglethorpe's Olafur Loftsson are in a playoff to
determine the individual title. Fedorka shot 67-71-74-73--285 (-3),
while Loftsson fired a 75-73-68-69--285 (-3).
For the Generals, juniors Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) and
Brad Watts (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) led the way as they
both tied for 51st overall. Gibson shot 73-70-83-79--305 (+17),
while Watts shot 77-75-75-78--305 (+17). Junior Robert Womble
(Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) carded a 75-83-75-77--310 (+22) to tie
for 76th, while junior Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) fired an
84-77-78-82--321 (+33) to tie for 108th. Senior Andrew Green
(Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) rounded out the W&L
contingent, shooting a 78-80-83-82--323 (+35) to tie for 114th
overall.
