Rogers Tabbed to Lead BC Women's Golf Program
BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- Bridgewater College
Interim President Roy Ferguson and Director of Athletics Curt
Kendall have named John Rogers, a 15 year veteran instructor at
Lakeview Golf Course in Harrisonburg, Va., as the new head coach
for the Eagles women’s golf program.
Rogers takes the reins from Tarah Miller who resigned in July.
“We’re pleased to have someone of John’s caliber
and expertise as the coach of the women’s golf program as
they enter their first season of competition,” said Kendall.
“We’re convinced that he will use his extensive
knowledge of the game to propel our women’s golf team to
great successes .”
Rogers was hired at Lakeview in 1995 as an assistant pro and has
been a golf instructor since 1999, occasionally assisting the
Bridgewater Eagles men’s golf program.
Since 2009, Rogers has been the head instructor at Lakeview,
assisting golfers of all ages and leading more than 1,000 private
lessons per year.
Prior to being named Lakeview’s top instructor, Rogers was a
teaching professional for eight years, beginning in 2001. During
that time he created the Tournament Players Series, which is a
program that was created to help young golfers. Currently serves
more than 100 junior golfers and has developed the skills of more
than a dozen players who have played at the collegiate level.
“To become the next golf coach at Bridgewater College and
help the young ladies in their first year in the program is a great
privilege and I’m extremely excited about the opportunity.
I’m looking forward to getting started working with the new
team and developing a quality program that makes Bridgewater
proud,” said Rogers.
In addition to working at Lakeview, Rogers began working as a
fitness and golf instructor at RMH Wellness Center in 2004 and has
provided indoor lessons and direct golf instruction for eight-plus
years.
Rogers graduated magna cum laude from James Madison University in
1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.
