ODAC Athletes Excel at Nationals

RC's Yerkes Wins 400m, Four Athletes Tabbed as All-Americans
SALEM, VA. --- The Old Dominion Athletic
Conference was represented well this past weekend at the 2009 NCAA
Indoor Track and Field Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on the
campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Highlighting the ODAC's showing at the championships was Roanoke
College's Robin Yerkes, who took first place in the 400m
dash. Yerkes entered the championship with the second fastest
time in the country, but managed to edge out the event favorite by
posting a time of 56.09, a new ODAC record by almost one-half
second.
Lynchburg College also had several stand-out performances during
championship weekend. Brandon Edwards finished seventh in the
triple jump, after posting a leap of 47'1". Teammate, Ricky
Flynn placed fifth in the 5000m with a time of 14:35.87.
Washington and Lee's Elizabeth Webb crossed the finish line at
5:03.90 in the mile run, which was good enough for ninth place
overall. Teammate Stacey Doornbos finished fifth overall in
the pentathlon with 3,390 points. She ran 8.81 in the
55-meters, cleared 1.48 meters in the high jump, tossed 10.43
meters in the shot put, jumped 5.47 meters in the long jump and ran
a 2:27.08 in the 800 meters.
In addition to outstanding performances at the 2009 Championships,
Yerkes, Edwards, Flynn and Doornbos were all tabbed as 2009 Indoor
Track and Field All-Americans, as the top eight finishers in all
events garner that award.
