RC's Moir Sets ODAC Wins Mark
Second Record for Overall Victories within Reach
FOREST, Va. --- Roanoke College head
men’s basketball coach, Page Moir, claimed an ODAC coaching
record on Tuesday night, one of two league standards in his reach
at the start of the 2010-11 season. The Maroons’ 73-59
win over Washington and Lee University marked Moir’s
231st win against conference competition in regular
season league play. The previous holder of that record was
former Emory & Henry College mentor, Bob Johnson (230
wins).
The inaugural campaign for men’s basketball under the ODAC
banner came during the 1976-77 academic year, making it a charter
sport for the conference. The ODAC began formal competition
in fall sports in September 1976. Moir’s 231 conference
wins are the most for any one men’s basketball coach in ODAC
history since the league’s inception.
Moir is in his 22nd year guiding the Maroons’
men’s basketball program, which accounts for each of his
years as a head coach in collegiate basketball. He assumed
control of Roanoke’s squad at the beginning of the 1989-90
season. Ed Green, the Maroons’ head coach directly
preceding Moir, steered RC through its first nine years of ODAC
play dating back to 1980-81.
Page is not the only Moir to have paced the Roanoke
sidelines. His father, Charlie Moir, presided over the team
from 1967-73 and guided the Maroons to their only national title in
1972. Combined, the father and son combo have won 497 games
at Roanoke, accounting for nearly 40-percent of the 98-year
program’s 1,290 victories.
Overall, Moir has won 364 games as the Maroons’ boss,
leaving him within reach of a second ODAC coaching record. He
stands six victories short of tying E&H’s Johnson for
all-time overall victories in ODAC seasons (1976-to-present).
Roanoke has 12 games remaining on its schedule this season.
Listed below are top-ten lists for both overall wins in ODAC
seasons (as a coach of an ODAC program) and wins over conference
opponents in regular season league play. For more
