R-MC Tabs Sheridan for Men's Lax Post

Arrives in Ashlan from Goucher College

ASHLAND, Va. --- Randolph-Macon College Director of Athletics Jeff Burns announced Tuesday that J.B. Sheridan has been named the new Head Men's Lacrosse Coach for the Yellow Jackets'program.

"I'm very excited to have J.B. join the Yellow Jacket family," said Burns. "He has coached and played on the biggest stage that Division III Men's Lacrosse has to offer. His experience in two exceptional programs as both a student-athlete and coach will prove to be invaluable as he and the current members of our program continue their quest to win an ODAC Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament."

Sheridan will arrive in Ashland after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Goucher College. As a member of Kyle Hannan's staff with the Gophers, Sheridan spearheaded all phases of the program that posted a 24-9 overall record during his time there. In 2010, Goucher went 14-4, captured the Landmark Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Sheridan served as the Gophers' defensive coordinator, while working with the goalkeepers and face-off specialists as well. Sheridan mentored 12 All-Landmark Conference selections as well as two All-Americans. Off the field, Sheridan was responsible for all aspects of recruiting, scouting and the Gophers conditioning program.

Prior to joining Hannan at Goucher, Sheridan broke into the coaching ranks at his alma mater, Salisbury University, serving as an assisting coach for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. During that time, the Seagulls went 45-0 and captured two National Championships. Sheridan was involved in all aspects of the SU program that featured 17 All-Americans and two National Players of the Year during that time.

"I would like to thank President Lindgren, Jeff Burns, and Provost Franz for giving me the opportunity to join the Randolph-Macon community and lead the men's lacrosse program," said Sheridan. "R-MC is a great institution and environment for success. I am eager to begin working with the administration, athletic department staff, and student-athletes here in Ashland. I would also like to thank Jim Berkman & Kyle Hannan for being great mentors at both Salisbury University and Goucher College. Through commitment and determination, I hope to share with our student athletes the character and accomplishment they shared with me."

As a three-year player at Salisbury, Sheridan helped the Seagulls to a 60-1 overall record, including National Championships in 2004 and 2005. Sheridan graduated from Salisbury with a degree in Graphic Design and was recognized with the Salisbury University Athletic Department Academic Achievement Award in 2006.

Sheridan is currently pursuing his Master's Degree in Education with a focus in academic administration and sports leadership from Goucher.
