E&H Hires Jordan to Coach Softball
Former VWC Head Coach Returns to the ODAC
A highly successful softball coach who has coached nationally
ranked teams to conference championships will take on the softball
head coaching position at Emory & Henry, as announced by the
Emory & Henry athletic department on Tuesday afternoon.
Jack Jordan brings extensive experience to Emory & Henry after
16 years as a softball coach at both the high school and college
levels. His college coaching experience includes a successful
six-year run at Division III Virginia Wesleyan College. He
compiled a record of 170-58 and led the team to two NCAA Tournament
appearances, three USA South Tournament Championships, and four USA
South Regular Season Championships and the teams were ranked in the
Top 20 nationally in four separate seasons. His success led
to his selection as USA South Coach of the Year four times and one
Regional Coach of the Year selection.
Jordan also had a three-year stint at Charleston Southern, a
Division I team. The team he inherited had lost 44
consecutive games prior to his arrival. He led the team to three
consecutive winning seasons. For that work, he was
selected by USA Today as an Honorable Mention selection for the
National Coach of the Year award.
E&H Director of Athletics Myra Sims says Jordan “brings
not just experience, but also a wealth of success to the
table. He has won at every level and in every sport he has
coached. We are extremely fortunate to bring a coach of
Jack’s caliber to Emory & Henry, and I have no doubt that
he will lead our softball program in the right direction. He
has clearly articulated the goals of rebuilding a highly successful
softball program at Emory & Henry while doing things the right
way.”
His work at various high schools in South Carolina included two
regional championships at Socastee High School, appearances in
three Lower State Championship Games, and a career record of
118-56. Jordan also has extensive and successful experience
coaching basketball for both men and women at the college and high
school levels, and football at the high school level.
Coach Jordan explains, “Emory & Henry has an outstanding
tradition of both academic and athletic excellence. I am
honored to have the opportunity to work here and continue that
tradition. The campus exudes historical significance and a
charm that has great appeal. My main goals for the softball
program are four-fold: return the program to a level of
competitiveness within the ODAC; help the program progress to a
point of national recognition, and advancement to the NCAA
Tournament; provide for our student-athletes an experience which
will enhance their education and enrich their lives; run a highly
competitive program with enthusiasm and class, and do all this
within the framework of ODAC and NCAA guidelines.”
Jordan completed his bachelor’s degree in physical education
at Trinity University and his master’s degree in sport
management at the U.S. Sports Academy. He also has completed
an additional 30 hours of graduate level course work in
education.
