MACKENZIE CREECH, Virginia Wesleyan, Freshman, Pitcher

Creech, a freshman from Hillsborough, N.C., pitched in all four games this past week for VWC and lowered her league-leading earned run average to 1.14.  She struck out 19 batters to increase her season total to 100, marking her as only the fourth VWC rookie to record 100+ strikeouts in a season.  The VWC rookie record is 118.  She also improved her record to 12-2, tying the third highest victory total by a VWC rookie.  The record is 16.  Creech allowed just one earned run in 21.1 innings in the circle.

Softball Pitcher Honor Roll

Lisa Lee, Eastern Mennonite, Junior
Lee went 2-2 in four games this week, locking down a 1.65 ERA over 17.0 innings over work.  She picked up wins against Sweet Briar on Tuesday and in game one against Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, as the Lady Royals extended their winning streak to 13 games.  She took a tough loss in relief in game two against the Marlins and then was the victim of two unearned runs in Sunday’s 2-1 loss at Randolph-Macon.  For the week, she struck out 18 batters.

Jessica Burcham, Guilford, Junior
Burcham recorded a 2.15 ERA in two ODAC wins this week… allowed only four earned runs, fanned nine batters and gave up 11 hits in her two appearances… earned her ninth win in the Quakers’ 9-1 victory over Emory and Henry with 6.0 innings pitched… only allowed one run and struck out four batters… in her second straight ODAC win, Burcham fanned five batters in her 12th complete game of the season, a 7-5 victory over Lynchburg.

Kristen Dize, Randolph-Macon, Sophomore
Dize came on in relief against Bridgewater College Saturday and held the Eagles’ offense in check to allow the Yellow Jackets to complete a comeback win. The sophomore righty allowed just one Eastern Mennonite player to advance beyond second in Sunday’s doubleheader against the ODAC leading Royals. Dize scattered five hits and went the distance for her second shutout of the season. Kristen improves to 9-1 overall after picking up wins in both contests.
