LC Defeats W&L, Moves on in NCAA's

Hornets Make Third Straight Trip to Sweet 16
LEXINGTON, Va. --- Freshman midfielder Shelley
Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) scored 24 minutes into the game
and the defense made the lead stand up as the Lynchburg College
women's soccer team defeated Washington & Lee University 2-0 in
the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The Hornets advance
into the Sweet 16 of the tourney, and will find out Monday where
and when they will play next.
Shelley Hoath scored the game winner at 23:47 of the first half on
an assist from junior forward Betsy Kwiatkowski (Mount Jackson,
VA/Stonewall Jackson). LC had a 6-0 edge in shots at intermission
and took the 1-0 lead into halftime. Senior midfielder Ashley Hoath
(Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) added an unassisted insurance goal at
62:09 to complete the scoring.
Junior keeper Anna Wright (pictured left - Ashland, VA/Patrick
Henry) made two saves to earn her 10th shutout of the
season. Lynchburg out shot Washington & Lee 10-4, but the
Generals held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Hornets are now 16-3-3 on the season and enter the Sweet 16 for
