Sweet Briar Names Mays New Head Tennis Coach
Former Assistant Assumes Reins
SWEET BRIAR, Va. --- Sweet Briar Athletic
Director Kelly Morrison has announced the appointment of Andy Mays
as head tennis coach. Mays takes over the program for Morrison who
is now serving as the athletic director and chair of physical
education. Morrison comments, "Andy is a great addition to
Sweet Briar's coaching team. He is dedicated to the team's success
and passionate about the game of tennis. And while it is difficult
for me to leave coaching, I know that the team is in good hands
with Andy as head coach."
Mays joined Sweet Briar's tennis program as an assistant coach in
fall 2004. An experienced and top-level competitor himself, Mays
has won the Virginia Group AA Singles, Doubles and Team
Championships. At Division I Virginia Military Institute, he played
31 singles and doubles.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to build upon the past
successes of Sweet Briar tennis and taking the team to the next
level where Sweet Briar belongs," Mays said.
Mays owns a business in Amherst, Va. and lives in Lynchburg with
his wife and twin daughters.
Joining Mays on the tennis staff is assistant coach Greg
Pribble. Pribble brings an extensive coaching background to
the program, serving the past four years as the head varsity girls'
coach at Holy Cross Regional School. Pribble played both soccer and
tennis collegiately and has played on a USTA tennis team for the
last ten years.
