Generals' Tandem Advances to Quarters
Tabb and Caire Take Two from Amherst Duo
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. --- The Washington and Lee
women's tennis tandem of senior Katie Tabb (Minneapolis,
Minn./Edina) and junior Lauren Caire (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth
Hall) advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III
Individual Championships with a straight-set victory on Friday
afternoon at the Collins Athletic Club.
Tabb and Caire defeated Brittany Berckes and Natasha Brown of
Amherst, 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the second day of play where they
will face Kristin Cobb and Marta Drane of Denison. This is the
second-straight year that Tabb and Caire have made an appearance in
the NCAA quarterfinals.
Tabb was also won of two W&L players taking part in the
individual portion of the event along with first-year Ellen Yeatman
(Little Rock, Ark./Little Rock Central). Tabb won her first match,
6-0, 6-1, over Berckes before falling, 6-3, 0-6, 0-6 to Amanda Wu
of Carnegie Mellon in the second round. Yeatman dropped her first
round match, 3-6, 2-6, to Ploy Suthijindawong of St.
Scholastica.
The quarterfinals for the doubles are slated to begin on Saturday
at 3:00 pm.
